A fully funded, one-year postdoc is available in Mohamed Ahmed’s Transportation Lab (https://researchdirectory.uc.edu/p/ahmed2mh ) in the Civil and Architectural Engineering and Construction Management Department at the University of Cincinnati. The research will be on areas of Connected and Automated Vehicle, Microsimulation, experimental and quasi-experimental behavioral studies, Big Data Analytics, Advanced Statistical Modeling of Traffic Safety Data, Human Factors, and Naturalistic Driving Studies. The position is available immediately and it will be open until filled. Experience with Connected and Automated Vehicle technologies is a huge plus but is not required if the applicant has a strong background in relevant fields (e.g., statistics, VISSIM Microsimulation, human behavior, Surrogate Measures of Safety, etc.) and a desire to engage in a federally funded Automated Vehicle Research.

The University of Cincinnati Driving Simulator Lab focuses on assessing Driver Behavior and Performance, Connected Vehicle HMI testing, Driver Education and Training on Passenger and Commercial Vehicles, and Evaluating the Impacts of Adverse Winter Weather on Traffic Safety.

CAECM supports programs in Civil Engineering (CE), Architectural Engineering (AE), and Construction Management (CM). The Architectural Engineering program, established in 2010, is an ABET-accredited program and offers a BS degree in Architectural Engineering with options to pursue an MEng in Architectural Engineering, and MS and PhD degrees in Civil Engineering.

• Apply experimental and quasi-experimental research methods and advanced statistical techniques.
• Plan, organize, and manage a research function efficiently and effectively.
• Direct graduate students in the development and implementation of complex experimental and quasi-experimental behavioral studies to evaluate the safety efficacy of new vehicle technologies and safety countermeasures.
• Effectively write, review, and edit technical research reports and journal papers.
• Develop and write grant proposals.

PhD in Civil Engineering in the area of Transportation Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related area.

• Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Physical abilities to perform laboratory research, including manual dexterity and abilities to see, hear, walk, talk, and feel with or without a reasonable accommodation. Individual is required to lift and carry items of 30 lbs or less or transport such items by cart.

• Familiarity with VISSIM Microsimulation, and/ or Driving Simulator programming and scenario development, mastering Java and C++.

• Ability to independently plan, organize, and manage a research function efficiently and effectively.
• Ability to direct graduate students in the development and implementation of complex experimental and quasi-experimental behavioral studies to evaluate the safety efficacy of new vehicle technologies and safety countermeasures.
• Ability to effectively write, review, and edit technical research reports and journal papers; and develop and write grant proposals.
