Job Description
Job Duties:
- Manage a project conducted by a team of researchers evaluating alternative radiation sources for the implementation of Sterile Insect Technique to control screwworm flies.
- Coordinate activities with Dr. Suresh Pillai at the National Center for Electron Beam Research at Texas A&M University and other colleagues at Texas A&M University and the USDA.
- Contribute to a white paper on alternative radiation sources in SIT application.
- Manage a team of undergraduate, graduate, and other researchers in the rearing and production of blow flies and will be responsible for biological assays associated with eBeam, X-ray, and gamma radiation treated blow flies.
- Assist in basic lab management, as necessary.
Requirements:
- PhD in Entomology, Zoology, Biology, or equivalent degrees
- Familiarity with fly biology
Ideally the candidate will have:
- Demonstrated the ability to raise flies in the lab Experience with life history trait analyses
- Experience with experimental design and statistical analysis with biological systems
- Demonstrated ability to work with scientific teams
- Demonstrated ability to manage undergraduates and / or graduate students
Funding for the project is expected for one year, with the potential to extend the project for additional years pending research outcomes.
