The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Postdoctoral Scholar, Education and the Asian American Experience, College of Education [R0131657].

ROLE of the POSITION

The UNLV College of Education is seeking a 12-month Postdoctoral Scholar to begin effective August 1, 2022.

The selected Postdoctoral Scholar will support work the development, implementation, and evaluation of a microcredential course "The Asian American Experience." Modules within the microcredential course will address topics related to the Asian American experience within U.S. society and Nevada in general, and education and school mental health more specifically. The final content and titles of each module of the course will be finalized during the course development process; however, contemporary and historical experiences of Asian Americans, including resilience and ways of knowing will be prioritized content within the course. Modules within the microcredential course will include links and class application materials, including those developed by the Asian American Education Project (https://asianamericanedu.org/ ) to supplement and extend learning. The intended audience for the course is professionals across the state of Nevada, including educators, educational leaders, school counselors, and paraprofessionals. In addition, the course may be used in training pre-service teachers and school mental health students across a variety of disciplines (e.g., counseling, social work, psychology).

In addition to supporting course development, the Postdoctoral Scholar will manage microcredential course enrollment, monitor individual participant progress, grade and provide feedback on module and course assessments, produce course certificates for participants, serve as the point person for the Clark County School District (CCSD), and produce an annual report. The Postdoctoral Scholar will also conduct research on the efficacy of the modules and courses.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Doctoral Degree in Education, Asian American Studies, or related field from a regionally accredited college or university. The ideal candidate will have evidence of scholarship related to the Asian American population with demonstrated interest in education and school mental health considerations for this population. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.
