Overview

The positions in this job family will assist scientists in performing scientific research, development and/or clinical tasks of varying complexity. In general, they will assist in the set up, operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, monitoring experiments, making observations and calculating and recording results.

Responsibilities

A full-time position is available for a highly motivated animal technician to study murine models of CLL. The technician will be responsible for mouse husbandry, and thus the candidate should have meticulous record keeping and organizational skills. This position will require comfort and ease with mouse models including breeding and weaning skills, techniques such as venipuncture, tail vein injections, autopsy, genotyping, and drug administration via oral and intravenous routes. Our animal facility will also teach and oversee these skills so the candidate should be eager and excited to learn new animal handling techniques. Training is available in all procedures; some experience in the above techniques is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required with a major in biology or chemistry preferred.
  • Minimum of 4-6 years related experience.
  • Having wide-ranging experience, uses technical concepts and Institute objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
  • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of information and techniques related to either biology, chemistry, or medicine is preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.
  • Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work-related issues and problems.
  • Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
