POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the Associations effort towards successful sports and programs. Working directly for the Chief Operating Officer and closely with the Branch Executives, the incumbent will lead Association efforts towards innovative, impactful and sustainable programming to support the Household membership and encourage membership growth. The incumbent must embrace the Association/Branch management model. This leader will also be responsible for articulating the Y’s mission, values, vision, and goals to the branch staff, members, and community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT

Ensures that programs support the retention and growth of the Household membership by meeting the needs of the community and fulfill South Shore YMCA objectives. Works with Program Directors to establish new program activities, initiatives and program expansion within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans ensuring financial and operational efficiency.


STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
Working with the branch Executive Directors and Associate Executive Directors, the incumbent will help recruit, select, employ, evaluate and direct a strong, capable team of staff to deliver innovative, high quality and well attended programs to support membership. The incumbent will be a key part of high functioning leadership team in a fast-paced work environment.

MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
Builds relationships with and among members, responds to inquiries and solves problems. Creates a safe and supportive community environment, assists in recruiting and engaging new members, and connects members to the YMCA’s mission.


BUDGET & FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Working with the branch Executive Directors, Associate Executive Directors and Program Directors, the incumbent will assist in the creation, planning and management of department budgets related to Sports and Programs as approved in a fiscally responsible manner.


FACILITY MANAGEMENT

Works with appropriate branch staff to provide program facilities for members that are safe, clean, adequately equipped, well maintained, and attractive.


VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT

Oversees the development and support of program volunteers.


FINANCIAL DEVELOPMENT

Assists in YMCA fund raising activities/events at the Branch and Association level.


COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT

Engages and builds collaborative relationships with community organizations.

Team Oriented- working closely with branch Executive Directors and Associate Executive Directors, the incumbent will be a key contributor to carrying out the performance goals of the branch, build a high-functioning goal-oriented team of staff and nurture a positive work environment that recognizes good performance, but also has the ability to Coach staff constructively when performance needs to improve.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree with from 4-year College or University in Recreation Sports Management, Sports leadership, Physical Education, or related field preferred.
  • 8+ years of hands-on, proven program development, execution and growth.
  • Recreation operational experience in an academic or YMCA setting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively in a matrix management system.
  • The ability to develop positive, effective working relationships with staff, volunteers and other agencies.
  • Effective coaching and teaching skills. Ability to multi-task various job responsibilities.
  • Schedule flexibility to work some nights and weekends
