SUMMARY

The Assistant Director of Development works in close collaboration with CSF-DC's Director of Development to execute a comprehensive fundraising, communications and marketing strategy for the College Success Foundation - District of Columbia (CSF-DC).This role is responsible for managing a donor portfolio, as well as the communication and marketing campaigns for CSF-DC. The Assistant Director of Development works collaboratively across departments on fundraising activities while stewarding relationships with new and existing donors, and provides support to the Director of Development on recognizing major gift donors. The Assistant Director of Development will assist in the production of (CSF-DC) special events and coordinate onsite meetings for internal and external stakeholders, prepare department and donor correspondence.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Donor Portfolio Management (60%):

  • Collaborates with Director of Development to develop and implement new models of income generation for a number of education-related programs, as well as implement fundraising strategies that significantly increase the organization's support from individuals, foundations, corporations, state and federal agencies and other sources.
  • Successfully cultivate, solicit, secure, and steward gifts of all levels. Manage a personal portfolio of major gift donors and prospects
  • Writes and leads the development of grant proposals and reports, manages the submission and agreement processes
  • Actively participate in the prospect identification and prospect management strategies for pipeline development, portfolio development, moves management, and all prospect development
  • Grow and manage an active portfolio of donors and prospects with a moves management approach, including research, identification, cultivation, face-to-face solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Represents CSF-DC to key external audiences: peer organizations, philanthropic organizations, trade groups and funders to expand visibility and support.
  • Build and maintain a portfolio of constituents.


Communications and Marketing (40%):

  • Provide oversight to the organization's communications and marketing, including monthly and quarterly newsletters, annual reports, website, and social media
  • Oversee the preparation of marketing strategies and collateral related to all development activities.
  • Plan and direct email and social media marketing efforts to support the fundraising activities of CSF-DC.
  • Support marketing and communication efforts across the organization, including development, education, and community partnership needs.
  • Manage content and messaging for website and digital communications, including targeted email marketing and social media.
  • Serve as the brand manager and develop key messages for all of CSF-DC's external communications.
  • Performs other donor management, fundraising and marketing duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

  • Bachelor's degree with 8-10 years of development experience.
  • Advanced degree in nonprofit management, marketing, or business preferred
  • CFRE is highly preferred
  • Demonstrated success securing gifts at the $10,000+ and above level
  • Demonstrated experience in building major donor relationships and other fundraising revenue streams, developing and implementing fundraising strategies, coaching fundraising staff and volunteer leaders, and writing winning proposals and fundraising collaterals.
  • Thorough proficiency in MS Office, social media, and experience with a fundraising database
  • Demonstrated success communicating via both the written and spoken word
  • Professional or volunteer experience in K-12 or postsecondary setting
  • Ability to comply with company COVID-19 vaccination policy.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to; place objects or operate office equipment such as a computer or other productivity machine and to communicate information and ideas so others will understand as well as exchange accurate information in these situations. The employee is frequently required to frequently move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to observe details at close range and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

During a pandemic, employees must be able to work remotely and use collaborative software in order to communicate with others and attend virtual meetings. Hybrid remote schedule is available for this position. Normal work environment is moderately quiet. Employees must be able to handle stress that is involved in meeting strenuous customer deadlines, working in high volume areas and be flexible and able to interact with employees and students of all levels.
