Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor of Robotics in Mechanical Engineering

Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor of Robotics in Mechanical Engineering in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Ref.: 515262), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers B.Eng., M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree programmes. The University of Hong Kong has a highly ranked engineering school and an active Mechanical Engineering Programme. The Department employs about 35 full-time faculty members and has well-equipped teaching and research facilities and support. The research environment is vibrant. Frontier research efforts are promoted and conducted in strategic areas including but not limited to advanced robotics, soft/flexible robot design, actuation, sensing and control, bio-inspiration design, exoskeleton and biomimetic robots, and their healthcare applications. The advances of robotics have impacted engineering in general and mechanical engineering in particular. This interdisciplinary study helps resolve many challenging problems involving sophisticated manipulation and intelligent tasks in frontline service, manufacturing processes, surgeries, space and dangerous environment. In addition, soft and intelligent robotics R&D is also increasingly growing in mechanical engineering.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field with an excellent research record. The appointee is expected to conduct frontier research within the broad area of developing robotics solutions to mechanical engineering systems or healthcare offered by the Department.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
