Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Chief of People and Advancement, the Director of Foundation and Government Grants is responsible for the creation and management of an ambitious plan to develop institutional foundation and government partnerships that support the Liberty Hill Foundation’s mission. The ideal candidate will manage the planning, organization, and implementation of an effective foundation giving program. They will also play a role in fundraising from state, local and federal government entities. This individual also directs all aspects of successful institutional giving, including prospecting, stewardship, restricted and unrestricted funding, and grant writing.

What You Will Do

In collaboration with the Senior Vice President, Chief of People and Advancement, Senior Vice President of Programs, and the Vice President of Public Partnerships, you will:??

  • Serve as the lead strategist and goal setting for the Liberty Hill Foundation, engaging and advising Foundations staff in the execution of a strategic fund development plan focused on foundation and government grants.?Supervise grant writer(s).
  • Manage an active portfolio of 40-50 foundations totaling $4-7M annually.???
  • Develop and execute ambitious growth plans to raise significant funding from existing and?new institutional foundations as well as city, state, federal government agencies.???
  • Set the standard for and oversee the development of compelling proposals and impact?reports for all funders in your vertical.???
  • Oversee the documentation of foundation giving activities within the Raiser’s Edge database (proposals, contact reports, plan steps, relationships, etc.).?
  • Oversee the funder pipeline, strategy for engagement, calendar of solicitation, stewardship,?and reporting for foundation and government funders.???
  • Focus on big-picture strategy, building processes and systems to streamline work cross departmentally, and envision a growing department able to sustain significant growth in?future years.?
  • Work across departments, particularly finance and program teams, to ensure compliance with?grant terms and restrictions and to develop budget documents and solicitation materials.?
  • Supervise the execution of contracts through various portals and liaise with Finance department to obtain necessary documents to complete the grant and/or contract registration process; write project summaries and abstracts as necessary.??
  • Partner with the Senior Vice President of Programs, and the Vice President of Public Partnerships to ensure grant deliverables and requirements are being achieved on an on-going basis. ??

Required and Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: BS/BA Degree or equivalent personal lived/professional experience.
  • At least five years of demonstrated experience in grant writing and/or grants management in a nonprofit environment.?
  • Experience writing and/or managing six- and seven-figure grants and contracts.?
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.?
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills with demonstrated ability to move between tasks and priorities on a daily basis. ??
  • A understanding of, and commitment to, Liberty Hill’s mission.?
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with foundation, government, and corporate funders.?
  • Knowledge of Los Angeles County funding landscape preferred.?
  • Supervisory experience preferred.?
  • Proficiency in Office365 with aptitude to learn new software.
  • Proficiency in Asana and Slack preferred.

Physical demands:

  • Ability to operate a remote workstation and laptop/screen for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel for in-person meetings and events in Los Angeles County.
