SUMMARY
The Dean of the Lakeshore Campus is responsible for the leadership of GRCC’s Lakeshore Campus, including creating and
implementing a vision aligned with the mission, vision, values, and strategic direction of GRCC. The Dean will create and
sustain a working environment on the Lakeshore Campus that demonstrates a spirit of collaboration, innovation, access,
and inclusion. The successful candidate will be a strategic leader with a deep understanding of and experience with the
critical role community colleges play in the academic, personal, and civic development of a student. The Dean will work
in cooperation with College leadership to create and sustain programs relevant to students and the Lakeshore
community. To successfully achieve these results the Dean will need to cultivate effective and mutually beneficial
partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.


The Dean of the Lakeshore Campus is a part of the Provost’s leadership team and will provide leadership for GRCC’s new
Lakeshore Campus building which opened in 2021. The Dean of the Lakeshore Campus will be responsible for
maintaining GRCC’s presence in the lakeshore community while building and expanding its programming to meet the
education and training needs of the community.

Essential Job Functions:
? Provide administrative leadership, support and supervision for the Lakeshore Campus.
? Collaborate with leadership across the College to develop short and long-term goals for the Lakeshore Campus, including program and course offerings and enrollment targets and initiatives.
? Develop partnerships within the Lakeshore community to best meet education and workforce needs.
? Facilitate regular meetings of the Lakeshore Advisory Council.
? Actively participate and engage within the Lakeshore community.
? Serve as a GRCC representative within and for the Lakeshore community.
? Advocate to the Provost for the needs of the Lakeshore Campus.
? Provide regular updates to the Provost and President regarding the activities of and opportunities for the Lakeshore Campus.
? Identify innovative approaches to programs and processes to advance the vision and direction of the Lakeshore Campus.
? Advance the development of equity-centered best practices to provide access and success on the Lakeshore Campus.
? Collect, review, and analyze data relevant to program vitality, student success, and other trends.
? Convene the staff of the Lakeshore Campus on a regular basis to review and refine the vision and strategic direction for the campus in collaboration with other College leaders.
? Collaborate with School Deans, Department Heads and Program Directors to focus on continuous improvement of programs and services at the Lakeshore Campus.
? Collaborate with School Deans, Department Heads and Program Directors in the exploration and development of new programs for the Lakeshore Campus.
? Advocate for staff and programs on the Lakeshore Campus.
? Identify grant opportunities and other sources of revenue for the Lakeshore Campus.
? Ensure alignment of the Lakeshore Campus to the Provost’s vision, the College’s Strategic Plan and mission of the College.
? Support, supervise, and evaluate direct reports on the Lakeshore Campus. Convene regular meetings, establish work expectations, and complete annual performance evaluations.
? Aligned with expectations established by the Provost, set standards for hiring new staff and regularly review the hiring processes to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
? Allocate resources and other systemic supports to promote professional development for staff.
? Participate in College-wide planning as appropriate, including but not limited to planning related to the strategic plan, budget development, emergency response, and facility master planning.
? Provide local leadership for the promotion of K-12 and transfer initiatives.
? Actively participate in and retain membership in such statewide and national organizations and activities as are appropriate for the maintenance and improvement of programs.
? Monitor legislative activity at the State and Federal level and provide input to the legislative process as appropriate.
? Participates in collective bargaining teams, as needed and assigned by the President.
? This role is a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs will be trained and responsible for reporting Clery Reportable Crimes to Campus Police as required by the Clery Act.
? Other duties as assigned by the Provost.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education/License

? Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an academic discipline offered by the College, Higher Education Administration, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field is required.
? A Doctorate degree is preferred.

Work Experience
? Minimum of three years prior experience in a role responsible for oversight of educational programming or educational center is required.
? Demonstrated leadership in an educational setting is required.
? Supervisory experience of staff is required.
? Teaching experience in higher education is preferred.
? Experience in a community college is preferred.
? Demonstrated experience with developing and moving forward initiatives that advance equity, access, and inclusion.
? Demonstrated successful leadership of complex, collaborative initiatives.
? Demonstrated successful advocacy for students and students’ needs.

Physical Demands

Working Conditions
• Grand Rapids Community College will comply with any mandated health and safety requirements. Employees

• Must be able to attend functions off campus and work weekends/evenings as required.
• Professional travel required.
