Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, 12-month, exempt, Associate Vice President of Instruction (AVPI) in the Office of Instruction. The AVPI will be an equity-minded, transformational leader who will help lead the college in achieving its goals of increasing student success, ensuring academic excellence, supporting professional development around teaching and learning, maintaining an inclusive college environment, and broadening strategic partnerships. The successful AVPI will be a forward-looking, thoughtful leader who can extend the college’s commitment towards learner centeredness, innovation, and social equity. The next AVPI will be a champion for diversity, equity, and inclusion with a record of accomplishment of building more inclusive work and learning environments, closing student achievement gaps, and increasing opportunities for student success. The ideal candidate will have a collaborative and student-centered approach to academic leadership.


This senior-level exempt position reports to the Vice President of Instruction (VPI), with responsibility for the coordination of instructional operations, planning and implementation of instruction-related strategic initiatives, workforce development, transfer, and articulations.

Successful candidates should have knowledge in majority of the following areas:
Culturally responsive, inclusive, and anti-racist practice in instruction; Instructional Planning; Implementation of student success strategies such as Guided Pathways; Comprehensive budget development and management; Outcomes assessment; College and third-party accreditation; Shared governance; Collective bargaining; Effective pedagogy in online and face-to-face instruction; Use of educational technologies; Establishing strategic partnerships, Creating professional development plans; Collaborative and community-building leadership; Program articulations and workforce development.

Position Responsibilities

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an Instructional lead in implementing institutional redesign strategies as part of Guided Pathway adoption: activities include systemic changes to scheduling processes, review and maintenance of program maps, and implementation of changes that eliminate siloed decision-making.
  • Under the direction of the VPI, provide leadership for staff in the Tenure office, the Director of Community and Continuing Education, the Director of Assessment and Institutional Research, and the Instructional Operations Analyst.
  • Provide leadership and coordination for the development and maintenance of articulated pathways to 4- year institutions.
  • Develop and maintain, in coordination with campus stakeholders, a centralized database for university and K-12 articulation agreements in alignment with guided pathways.
  • Assist with the institutional accreditation process and support development of all associated reports to maintain the college’s accredited status.
  • Responsible for the operations of Community & Continuing Education providing relevant non-credit options for individuals and employers.
  • Coordinate the development and production of the Schedule of Classes and the College Catalog within established timelines.
  • Collaborate, in conjunction with unit deans and faculty, with industry and workforce investment partners to identify and meet regional training needs.
  • Oversee vocational certification for career-technical education (CTE) faculty and administrators. Oversee the scheduling, coordination, and recording of minutes for CTE advisory committees.
  • Supervise and support the functions of the Tenure Office.
  • Develop, manage, and report on the annual Perkins Plan, Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment (CLNA), and Worker Retraining Plan.
  • Support and assist with the collective bargaining process and related activities associated with the Clark College Association of Higher Education (CCAHE) negotiations.
  • Serve as the designee of the VPI for internal and external committee and representative responsibilities as assigned.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate employees in accordance with negotiated agreements, applicable state and federal laws, and College policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and operationalize strategic initiatives across Instructional units and other campus entities as directed by the VPI.
  • Serve as chair or member of designated College committees, councils, and teams.
  • Provide leadership in accordance with the Mission and Vision established by the College, furthering Core Themes and College Objectives meeting Accreditation requirements.
  • Ensure areas of responsibility operate effectively within the policies and procedures of the College and applicable governing agencies.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for operating unit(s).
  • Exercise effective stewardship over college resources.
  • Prepare reports and analytical materials to illustrate objectives, activities, and accomplishments of areas of responsibility.
  • Create a safe, bias-free working environment, which embraces diversity and equity.
  • Work to achieve the core theme of fostering a diverse college community as established by the College.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of experience in academic administration or instruction.
  • Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
  • Vaccination requirement: Per Washington State Proclamation 21-14.1: college employees must be fully vaccinated. Supplemental Information

Starting Salary: $112,403/annually. Please note the salary will be adjusted for the 2022-2023 year to reflect the cost-of-living increase. Benefits include vacation/ sick leave; medical, dental, life and long-term disability insurance; retirement; and tuition waiver.
