Job Summary

Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs) for ENGR 101 are assigned to teach 1-3 lab sections and hold weekly office hours. You are also assigned other administrative duties such as reviewing assignments for academic dishonesty, monitoring and replying to student questions on Piazza, grading assignments, or reviewing and suggesting updates to course materials, depending on the number of labs you are teaching. This is a part-time appointment (50% effort).

Course Description

Engineering 101 focuses on solving engineering problems with computer programming. Every engineering discipline uses computing to solve relevant and interesting problems, and this class prepares students to effectively apply computing to their future classes and careers. Responsibilities*

Teach courses, or coordinate, lead, or assist in the instructional process in direct interaction with students in recitation, laboratory, quiz, or problem sessions, or teach during regularly scheduled office hours. Assist instructor in preparing course materials and grading.

Required Qualifications*

To be considered for this position, you must be a University of Michigan graduate student in good standing, taking at least 6 credit hours in the term you are applying for. Both incoming and current graduate students are eligible.

Desired Qualifications*

Previous teaching experience is preferred but not required for this position.

Selection Process

Candidates are selected by the instructors. The instructor will contact candidates by email if they are selected for an interview. You may also be contacted by a member of the First Year Program Office.
