Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership (TLPL) in the College of Education at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for a tenure-track position in Urban Education at the rank of Assistant, or Associate.

Located in the Washington, DC-Baltimore corridor, the University of Maryland, College Park is the flagship research university committed to rigorous research, quality teaching, and informed public service. Education:
Earned a doctorate and have expertise and research interests in the educational experiences of racially/ethnically marginalized communities in the U.S.

Experience:
  • Has a record of research that complements TLPL.
  • Has published in respected refereed journals, conferences, and professional outlets.
  • Can develop collaborative relationships with diverse colleagues in the university, school systems, state agencies, research institutes, and policy network.
  • Has a record of pursuing and/or securing internal and/or external funding.
  • Is strongly committed to the diversity, mission and equity goals of the TLPL Department;
  • Has a record of institutional and national service.
  • Can contribute to the preparation of educational scholars, practitioners, and leaders.

Expectations are commensurate with the rank sought (Assistant, or Associate).

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Expertise in critical, theoretical frameworks pertaining to race and gender (e.g., Critical Race Theory, BlackCrit; Anti-Blackness, Afro-Pessimism, Afro-Futurism, Community Cultural Wealth, Black Feminist Thought, Womanism, Intersectionality);
  • Experience advising doctoral students and teaching doctoral-level courses;
  • Experience teaching qualitative and/or mixed methods research courses; and
  • Record of service to schools and school systems, local communities, and/or community-based organizations.
