General Description of the Position
Delaware State University (DSU) is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral research associate in geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing, with an emphasis on GIS use in natural resources. The research associate (working with Dr. Sigrid Smith in the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources and outside collaborators) will contribute to a USDA-funded project on spatial planning for sustainable agriculture. This is a 100% grant funded position budgeted through May 2023.
Essential Functions
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
Perform and document GIS analyses and contribute to other research efforts for the projectDesign and lead GIS and remote sensing course modules and training workshopsHelp to develop GIS metadata for research productsHelp to develop manuscripts from both research and teaching activities for publication in science and science education journalsMentor undergraduate and graduate students Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Extensive knowledge and interest in GIS and their applications in natural resourcesInterest and/or experience in developing curricula and delivering high-quality university courses and training workshopsAbility to communicate and work effectively with faculty, students, collaborators, and representatives of local governmental and non-governmental organizations Qualification Standards
Education: Ph.D. in a natural resource-related science with extensive experience in GIS and/or remote sensing, or Ph.D. in geospatial science with extensive experience in natural resources applicationsAn active record of publication in science and/or science education journalsAuthorization to work in the United States Performance Standards:
