Scripps Mercy Hospital was founded in 1890 and is the oldest hospital in San Diego County and has campuses in Chula Vista and Hillcrest. The hospital has 700 acute-care-licensed beds and employs 1,300 physicians on the two campuses.

v As Vice President, Chief Operations Executive, you will have overall responsibility and accountability for the patient care and operations for Scripps Mercy Hospital, with the objective of operational efficiency, while improving quality and the patient experience.

v Ensure consistency of operations between business units.

v Participate in the development and management of the operating budget.

v Plan, promote and conduct activities that improve patient care and operations.

v Work with system wide and site quality initiatives to ensure key quality indicators are improving and targets are achieved.

v Maintain 24/7 hour responsibility for services, programs, departments, care centers (hospital/business unit operations).

v Develop and implement policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.

v Coordinate and integrate interdepartmental and intradepartmental services.

v Prioritize high risk issues, investigates, responds in a timely manner.

v Demonstrate effective relationships with medical staff and external customers. Promotes positive medical staff relationships.

v Provide functional expertise essential to support business operations.

v Implement long and short term strategic planning for hospital operations, ensuring consistency between business units.

v Operate within approved budget and contributes to achieve 100% of the budget operating income for the operating unit.

v Demonstrate effective leadership of human resources in order to ensure a sufficient number of qualified, competent, and empowered staff.

v Analyze and approve capital expenditures within authorized budgetary and policy guidelines.

v Participate in hospital and system wide committees as required.

v Maintain professional expertise and participates in organized professional activities.

v Act as hospital representative in community relations activities as required, including Speakers Bureau.

Qualifications

Education:

* Master's degree in nursing or clinical field, business administration or related field

Experience:

* At least five years progressive leadership experience demonstrated by successive growth in management roles in inpatient nursing or ancillary units.

* Dedication to excellence and innovation regarding continuous quality improvement, patient care models and clinical integration.

* Must possess excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills and be comfortable and effective in working with all levels of management, employees, physicians, the community and donors.

* Knowledge of state and federal healthcare regulations including California Title 22 and TJC standards.

Preferred:

* At least ten years progressive leadership experience demonstrated by successive growth in management roles in inpatient nursing or ancillary units in a large multi-location healthcare system.
