To assist in the day-to-day operation of the NC State Plant Disease and Insect Clinic. Specific duties will include performing diagnostic assays on plant samples as directed by diagnosticians, logging incoming samples into the clinic database application, preparing agar media, replenishing supplies as used, washing glassware and plastic boxes, assisting with updating of the supplies inventory, and other duties as assigned.
Until mid-August this position will have additional responsibilities for processing invoices and payments received. This involves updating the billing system with payments made, depositing payments of checks with the university, sending invoices, and general accounting troubleshooting.
Work Schedule:
The schedule for this position varies according to the workload in the Plant Disease and Insect Clinic. The anticipated workload is 15-19 hours per week May through August, about 10 hours per week in September, October, March, and April, and 5-10 hours per week November through February.

Department Required Skills
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
- Fine motor skills for processing plant tissue for pathology assays, pouring agar plates, etc.
- Ability to calculate dilutions using simple ratios/proportions
- Basic keyboard and computer skills
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
- Work experience in a research or clinical laboratory
- Coursework in microbiology or mycology
- Experience entering data into a relational database
- Ability to lift 15lbs. or more
- Competency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Experience with DNA extraction and conventional PCR
