Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The University of Maryland College of Information Studies iConsultancy program prepares our students with hands-on experiential learning for careers in industry, government and the nonprofit sector. Focusing primarily on client-based projects, the iConsultancy develops project opportunities that enable students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge across a variety of courses and academic programs while providing its clients with valued outcomes.

The iConsultancy Client Manager will help to grow this program, with the skills to build partnerships with companies, entrepreneurs, and organizations, secure funding commitments, support the vision of faculty leaders, and provide a transformational experience for student participants. This individual will be expert in fostering collaboration and will connect the College with companies, entrepreneurs, and organizations motivated to partner on information projects such as data science, data visualization, information management, database architecture, UX/UI, and website design.

The iConsultancy Client Manager will operate under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. As staff leader of the College of Information Studies’s iConsultancy Program, the Client Manager is responsible for all aspects of the iConsultancy experience for students, faculty, and industry partners, including scaling up the program as industry participation grows. The Client Manager will partner with multiple organizations, including: the Dean’s office, Academic Affairs, faculty and staff, University Relations, UMD Career Center, as well as other outward-facing UMD units and external partners. The Client Manager formulates program strategies and goals; plans, directs and controls program budget and other related resources; and manages the entire contract, IP negotiation and invoice process with external partners. The Client Manager will support an appointed Faculty Director, primarily by building connections with potential industry sponsors, scoping projects and ensuring successful project execution.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.

Experience:
Four-five years of experience in the following:
  • Working in a service delivery-based business or organization.
  • Working in academia.
  • Managing a portfolio of corporate relationships.
  • Cultivating, soliciting and stewarding corporate sponsors.
  • Preparing written proposals and materials to secure funding.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability and experience managing relationships with industry, non-profit organizations, and government entities.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring analytical skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of project management, including team dynamics.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Coursework or professional experience in information science, human computer interaction, library and archival science, information technology, information systems, or an area related to the College’s academic programs.
  • Experience in Advancement or business development.
  • Experience working with students.

Salary:
$90,076 – $95,080.
