POSITION TITLE: Research Assistant II

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Droujinine Lab at Scripps Research is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Assistant II to join our team. Our lab focuses on uncovering and characterizing secreted factors that coordinate organ functions in homeostasis and disease, using cutting-edge proteomics and in vivo functional genomic screens. The successful candidate will work under minimal supervision to conduct a wide variety of standard laboratory techniques and procedures, providing critical support for our research on interorgan communication networks and their impact on aging and disease.

The Droujinine Lab has developed novel methods to identify and characterize novel secreted factors that coordinate organ functions in homeostasis and disease in mammalian systems. Specifically, we use proteomics and in vivo functional genomic screens to uncover the secreted proteins and cellular circuitry involved in homeostasis, obesity, and aging. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Work under minimal supervision. Independently conduct a variety of standard laboratory techniques and procedures, including mammalian cell culture, in vivo mouse experiments, quantitative TMT mass spectrometry proteomics, metabolomics, western blotting, pulldowns, DNA cloning, immunostaining, and confocal microscopy.
  • Adapt and modify standard methods and techniques as necessary, using judgment and troubleshooting skills to address complex features and potential solutions.
  • Provide interpretation and analysis of experimental results. Keep detailed records of all experiments and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and modify procedures to improve experimental outcomes.
  • Assist in designing experiments to complete segments of the overall research plan.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure experimental design aligns with research goals.
  • Perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive laboratory environment.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained.
  • Requires 3-5 years' experience in biology, chemical biology, biological engineering, or related discipline.
  • Candidates possessing a master's degree, 2+ years' experience required.
  • Experience in biologic techniques outlined in the position summary highly preferred but not required.
  • High motivation and independence in reading scientific literature and performing experiments.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS:

  • This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment.

COMPENSATION: The expected hiring range for this position is $66,560 to $75,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
