This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite on UCSD Campus in La Jolla, CA and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The mission of the Student Health & Well-Being (SHW) cluster is to promote a culture of health and well-being for the student community, deliver equitable high quality innovative services, incorporate inclusive approaches, and celebrate diversity, with the goal of adoption and maintenance of healthy behaviors contributing to the academic success and personal development of all students.

The UC San Diego SHW cluster, which reports through UC San Diego Health System, plays a leadership role in creating a strong and active wellness culture that enables all students to flourish in body, mind and spirit. This includes promotion and the transformation of existing departments, under the oversight of the Executive Director, into a cohesive, trans-disciplinary source of integrated wellness services. The SHW cluster includes the departments of Student Health Services (SHS), Health Promotion Services (HPS), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Strategic Planning, Innovation and Research (SPIR), Assessments and Analytics (SHWAA) and SHW Administration (ADM).

SHW provides health promotion, counseling and psychological services and primary medical care, including urgent care and support services, to over 43,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students. Staff consists of physicians, psychiatrists, psychologist, pharmacists, optometrists, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, radiology technologists, clinical laboratory scientists, medical lab assistants, medical assistants, health educators, administrative and other healthcare professionals. SHW provides full business, financial and infrastructure services, including support for the Executive Director's Office, strategic planning, innovation, research, assessments and analytics, information technology, budget management, resource planning and administration, contracts management, human resources, credentialing/privileging, medical records, insurance management, patient billing and collections, marketing and facilities and space.

Reporting to the Director, Assessments and Analytics, incumbent is responsible for the design, building, testing, and implementation of clinical and information application systems for the Student Health and Well-Being cluster. Provides support to users through knowledge of clinical and business processes, documentation needs, workflows, and clinical and business practice standards, when adapting software and reporting platforms to meet their needs. Works with clinicians and administrators to create or adapt written protocols, reports, and database systems. Prepares detailed specs encompassing clinical and business processes, information flow, reporting, risk, and impact analysis. Provides customer service, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

Incumbent must be experienced in applying application and information concepts and efficiencies into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field, both clinical and administrative; independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; possesses broad job knowledge; analyzes problems and issues of diverse scope and determines solutions within both UCSD Health and UCSD campus information systems. Incumbent will play a critical role in optimizing clinical, business, and information application systems to support the delivery of high-quality Student Health and Well-Being services at UCSD Health.

CT: Applies skills as a seasoned clinical applications professional to projects of medium size at all levels of complexity, or portions of large.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven (7) years of clinical informatics or a related field, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, plus three (3) years of related experience/training. Preferably, at least 7 years in programming, system analyst, or clinical application enhancement.

  • Advanced SQL programming experience.

  • Advanced experience with building automated reporting systems.

  • Advanced experience with data visualization software and building dashboards.

  • Professional experience working with and developing higher education and/or health database systems.

  • Broad and / or in-depth knowledge of 1-2 areas of focus in clinical applications specialty area(s). Knowledge of systems and functions, including design, development, implementation, user support and training, maintenance, quality assurance, and system testing and evaluation.

  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge in documentation and reporting, with the ability to design and execute tests, analyze system performance data, and produce substantive reports and analyses.

  • Detail oriented, with proven organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, and see projects through to completion on deadline.

  • Strong problem-resolution skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose problems, and develop, test, and implement appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively, train, support, and work collaboratively with users of clinical information systems at all professional and technical levels.

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to convey technical information and instructions to all levels of clinical applications users in a specific, clear, and concise manner.

  • Ability to work with senior staff and managers, serving as a technical resource and providing advice and counsel on issues of functionality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, policy, and performance.

  • As appropriate, submit incident reports into the UCSD SHW Incident Report System, RL Datix or current system in use, to report near-misses, process problems or patient or employee injury events. Attend required trainings and refreshers for use and proper steps to follow.

  • As applicable to position, ability to at all times adhere to UCSD Health Medical Center (C.A.R.I.N.G.) Standards of Performance, and demonstrate the characteristics of professionalism in attire, attitude, conversation, behavior and attentiveness to others.   • Demonstrated experience and competency with standard business equipment, computer technologies and a variety of software including system and networking software, Microsoft Office suite, email and a variety of web-based programs and browsers, with the willingness and ability to update and increase skills as needed to meet the goals of Student Health and Well-Being.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with Windows server and Microsoft SQL server.

  • Experience with programming within large database systems in Higher Education or Health settings.

  • Experience with building reporting dashboards and other advanced reporting visualizations.

  • Certifications in information reporting systems (e.g., SQL, Qualtrics, Tableau, Microsoft platforms)

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Ability to telecommute for work, if/when needed and operationally feasible, as determined by department.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $91,300 - $170,700 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $43.73 - $81.75

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
