The Institute for Educational Initiatives (IEI) and the Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) at the University of Notre Dame invite applications for a full-time Dual Language Program Coordinator with an intended start date of July 15, 2024 to support the work of the English as a New Language (ENL) program. The position includes significant work in the areas of dual language outreach, program implementation across three Catholic schools, and coordination of the Early Childhood Language Intensive Programs (ECLIP). The Dual Language Program Coordinator reports to the Director of the ENL and Catholic School Advantage (CSA) programs. The English as a New Language (ENL) program is committed to helping Catholic schools ensure that culturally and linguistically diverse students thrive.
ENL employs a threefold approach which invites schools, leaders, and teachers to develop a deep understanding of the process of second language acquisition, employ research-based instructional strategies, and cultivate culturally sustaining classrooms in the context of the unique realities of Catholic schooling. ENL’s efforts are rooted in four main outreach efforts: formation of Hernandez Fellows through graduate level study, onsite and online professional development, resource creation and research (articles, podcasts, texts, webinars, publications, etc.), and dual language programming.
ENL exists in the context of the larger Catholic School Advantage (CSA) initiative, the national movement committed to promoting the value and accessibility of a quality Catholic education among Church and school leaders, educators, and families. The work of the CSA is committed to embracing the universality of the Church by increasing Latino enrollment, educating culturally and linguistically diverse children through excellent academic formation, and empowering all Catholic school stakeholders through the celebration of faith, language, and culture. Position Duties
ENL Resource and Outreach Development (10%)
1. Contribute to the unit’s writing projects and resource dissemination (https://ace.nd.edu/programs/enl/resources)
2. Assist in ENL’s marketing and recruitments efforts
3. Develop and deliver virtual and onsite professional development to (arch)dioceses and schools throughout the year (https://ace.nd.edu/programs/enl/professional-development)

Manage primary partner school relationships for ENL’s dual language efforts including, but not limited to:

- Maintain a weekly presence in the school and assist the school leader in evaluating and procuring curricular and capital resources
- Designing and mapping curriculum
- Writing grants and managing foundation relations
- Facilitating key University partnerships (Department of Romance Languages and Center for Social Concerns Community-based Learning courses, manages student volunteers, etc.) leading instructional coaching

Assist in the dual language program’s initial formation oAdvise the Dual Language Immersion Coordinator

- Maintain University partnership with the school including curriculum procurement, instructional coaching, and facilitation of cross grade level collaborations
- Coordinate donor relations
- Assist in grant writing for dual language initiatives
- Oversee data collection and research for dual language efforts
Dual Language Outreach (15%)
Engage with the larger Catholic dual language field
Engage with the larger Catholic dual language field
- Host the National Catholic School Spanish Spelling Bee
- Coordinate annual opportunities for dual language schools such as conferences, site visits, etc.
Early Childhood Language Intensive Programs (ECLIP) (30%)
Coordinate the Early Childhood Language Intensive Programs (ECLIP) including:
- Curate and procure preschool resources, accompanying phonics program, and mentor texts
- Manage two contracted hourly academic coaches
- Design and execute monthly professional development outreach to teachers (in Spanish) and quarterly formation of principals (in English)
- Coordinate communication between 25 preschool programs nationally (recruitment, participation, completion, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree of Bachelor’s degree (5 years) or advanced certificate beyond Bachelor’s
- 2 years Experience
Preferred Qualifications
1. Pre-K-12 teaching experience with English learners
2. Background in dual language settings
3. Competencies with Google Suite, particularly some proficiency with Google Sheets
4. Experience with or knowledge of the mission and institutional organization of Catholic schools
5. Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills
6. Refined public speaking skills and bilingual fluency with Spanish and English
7. High levels of organization and systems thinking
8. Ability and willingness to travel for professional development opportunities and for dual language school site visits
