A faculty member at Oklahoma City Community College has the primary responsibility of instruction. Secondary responsibilities include supporting the integrity of curricula, participating in various college activities, encouraging student success, providing student advisement, and promoting the mission of the academic division to which the faculty member belongs as well as the college as a whole.

The Professor of Biology/Chemistry will be responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum at the course level for students enrolled in Chemistry and Biological Sciences courses.

Minimum Education/Experience
A minimum of a masters degree in a biological or chemical science with at least 18 credit hours of graduate course work that includes material from both types of disciplines.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Positive human relations and communication skills.

Ability to communicate and articulate chemical and physical concepts in an organized manner both verbally and in writing.

Ability to read and understand content in order to assist students when they are having difficulty interpreting chemical and physical concepts.

Ability to interact in an effective and encouraging manner with students individually and in groups.

Ability to interact in an effective and encouraging manner with other faculty and staff individually and in groups.

Organization and attention to detail.

Basic computer and graphing calculator skills.

Discretion with passwords and student information.

Ability to use, and ability to explain the use of the calculators, mathematical software, and tutorial programs to students.

Willingness to train on any new programs and equipment used in the department.

Must be punctual

Must be reliable
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to move objects.

2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, faculty, staff, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to frequently move about the classroom and lab area to assist students and perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.

This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that frequently involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists.

This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer, other office equipment and mobile devices to prepare instructional documents, answer email correspondence, and complete other activities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently position self to work with classroom and lab equipment to instruct or assist students and patients.

3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

4. WORKING CONDITIONS
This position’s essential functions are performed in an indoor, classroom, office, and lab area.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Biological and/or Chemistry Related Sciences

Teaching experience at the post-secondary level

Community college specific teaching experience
Required Training
Blood Borne Pathogens, Lab Safety, Quarterly employee training
Work Hours
This is a full-time position. Teaching schedules can include on campus on days, nights and/or week-ends; online; hybrid; or concurrent sections offered at remote locations. Required institutional activities (other than attendance at commencement) usually occur in the classic eight-to-five Monday through Friday work week.
