ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

Safely and efficiently execute tug and barge movement within the NASSCO facility and occasionally within San Diego Bay utilizing two small workboats. Proactively plan, schedule, and execute daily work of Waterfront Services department with a small team. Typical work items include pier layout, movement of brows and platforms, maintenance work, diving jobs, and vessel movements. Expected to take the lead when coordinating with other departments in the pursuit of goals set forth with and by management. Regular involvement with many departments within the yard to support milestones such as ship movements (arrivals, departures, and shifts), docking and undocking, launches, and float outs. Prepare for and execute large scale evolutions such as Dockings, Undockings, Float Outs, and Launches multiple times per year. Execute successful and safe planned evolution with department and supporting trades. Responsible for maintaining compliance of two small subchapter M, Coast Guard inspected vessels including yearly certificate of inspection, certificate of documentation, and scheduling appropriate maintenance items as necessary.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

- Minimum requirement is High School Diploma or GED.

- Required USCG Master of 50 Tons other than Auxiliary Sail, preferably qualified on towing vessels (Master or Mate/Pilot)

- Preferred minimum experience of 3 years working in the maritime industry, preferably some on work boats or towing vessels.

- Preferred experience leading a small team.

- Must have experience in using Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, Excel, Word and Power Point while being able to navigate in the computer server environment

- Must have a valid driver's license with reliable, insurable transportation. Able to gain access to Government facilities and able to obtain a Security clearance once employed by NASSCO

- Able to work nights and weekends during peak workloads or as required by Management.

- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including respirator

- Capable of leading 3 to 5 assigned personnel on a daily basis to complete necessary tasks within the shipyard.

- Plan and execute daily work for department personnel with help and input from management.

- Track major milestones and schedule work accordingly.

- Occasionally move barges within San Diego Bay using our small work boats.

UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job. Must be willing to travel and have reliable transportation. Must be a U.S. citizen and qualify for a Common Access Card (CAC) or DBIDS badge. Must have reliable record of attendance and punctuality and be available for overtime as required. Must be able to physically transit all areas of the facility. Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, and to talk and hear. Must have good eye/hand coordination. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be familiar with working in a naval-ship-work-environment and be able to go aboard marine vessels and the drydock, climb ladders, work in tanks and confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment. These areas can be dirty, dusty, hot or cold, and noisy.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work occurs in both an outdoor shipyard environment and in an office setting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Visual acuity to perform activity such as: operating machines where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach or by performing mechanical or skilled trade tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by electricians, technicians, service people, painters, mechanics, etc. Must be able to pass a red/green color blindness test per USCG requirement. Position requires the ability to distinguish color.Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing. Requires ability to commute physically to various areas of the shipyard including but not limited to shipboard activities. Position requires employees to carry, raise, lower, push or pull objects up to 50lbs. Must be capable of ascending/descending stairs or ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and transiting through manholes and other confined, congested spaces. Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Must remain alert and comply with all safety requirements. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed occasionally to dust, fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 65% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. The noise level is relatively low to moderate in office environments. The noise level in the outdoor shipyard production environment is moderate to noisy 70% of time which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.

Responsible to operate autonomously, make decisions which could impact timelines, and new method identification

Maintain overall responsibility over small projects which have direct impact on milestones.

Maintain crew in a ready status for jobs within the yard which could come at very short notice.

Responsible to coordinate with stakeholders within the yard to accomplish tasks assigned by management.

PAYSCALE:

$101,700 - $131,600

This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
