Counselor for Student Financial Counseling

Job Description

STUDENT FINANCIAL COUNSELOR, Student Financial Services (SFS), to join a team that supports student success by guiding them through the technical aspects of the financial aid process, assists with application completion, counsels on financial aid awards, and processes general documentation.  Will provide assistance to financial aid presenters on informational webinars and presentations; aid the Financial Education team with student presentations and partnerships with UAC, OME, and first generation, low income (FLI) programs; assist in awarding international financial aid with the opportunity to expand to domestic file reads; support student outreach by staffing outpost initiatives in the Wellbeing Lab, UAC, and other departments as needed; support the customer service counselors by providing front desk coverage, replying to SFS emails, and answering telephones as needed; assist the SFS Customer Service and Operation teams by providing proactive and individualized outreach to students with outstanding balances; and offer back-up support for specialized tasks.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree, preferably in finance, education, communications, or related field; three years’ experience engaging with students in a university environment; excellent interpersonal, organizational, customer service, and verbal and written communication skills; ability to set priorities, take initiative, manage multiple demands in a busy office, apply sound judgment when dealing with administrative issues, and work effectively with diverse populations; discretion with confidential personal, financial, and medical information; active listening skills and ability to document client interactions accurately; accountability for own work and for building customer confidence in SFS and the Institute; and advanced-level and varied computer skills and ability to learn new programs/software.  PREFERRED:  understanding of financial aid services in higher education and knowledge of PowerFAIDS and Banner.  Job #239582-6

Salary range: $55,000 - 65,000

This position is hybrid with a minimum of two to three days on campus, including in-person Tuesdays and/or on other meeting days as needed.

During peak seasons, this may include weekend or evening work for task completion and/or presentations/events.  Must be available on campus to assist with Campus Preview Weekend (CPW), which is usually scheduled for the second week of April and will include Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check.
