Position Title: Director of Operations

Department: Administration

Accountable To: Executive Vice President

Status: Exempt

Primary Objective of the Position:

Manage organization operations by directing and coordinating activities consistent with established goals, objectives, and policies. Follow direction set by Executive Vice President and Board of Directors. Implements programs to ensure attainment of business plan for growth and profit. Provide direction and structure for operating units. Participate in developing policy and strategic plans.

Financial Management

Develop with Departmental Directors the operating budgets for recommendation to the Board and prudently manage organization’s resources within the budget guidelines. Ensure timely reporting of financial status to EVP and Boards.

Product and Program Management

Maintain active and continuing interest in all projects and services of the associations and provide direction and coordination in order to provide efficient member/customer service. Monitor design, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs, products and services to ensure they meet the overall operational goals.

Operations Management

Implement the association strategies and objectives. Implement operational systems to achieve effective workflow. Provide on-going examination of operations’ structure and process as well as making policy recommendations for solutions, improvements and operational changes.

Public Relations Management

Assure that the organization and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders. Maintain member/customer relations to increase societies’ visibility and new business opportunities. Develop relationships with existing and potential customers to establish and or solidify business relationships.

Board Administration and Support

Support operation and administration of the Board by advising and informing Board/ Council members, interfacing between Board and staff, and supporting and implementing Board policies. Provide high quality and effective communication of current status, developments, issues and decisions facing the associations operations. The VPO will attend all Board/Council meetings, budget and planning meetings.

Leadership

Create a working climate in which assigned personnel are motivated to develop their skills and abilities. Provide effective communication to all employees regarding operational strategies. Develop and foster a culture that manages change and encourages innovation.

Requirements:

 

  • 7-10 years experience nonprofit (501c3) executive, ideally with a successful leadership background
  • Strong manager with the business acumen and ability to set clear priorities, delegate, and supervise people and systems
  • Experience in partnering with Board and staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience collaborating in and building consensus in diverse and dynamic team
  • Experience leading and managing teams remotely
  • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree; Master’s or a terminal degree plus 10+ years of executive experience preferred
