Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Reporting to the Sr. Manager Compliance the Sr. Compliance Data Analyst is responsible for supporting the unit by promoting adherence to university and sponsor regulations, policies and procedures relating to research activities, creating, and analyzing reports and supporting all SPAC teams with comprehensive analysis and training. UMD has over $600M in annual sponsored program expenditures from more than ten federal agencies and numerous state, local, private and foundation sponsors with hundreds of active awards.

The Sr. Compliance Data Analyst is responsible for managing the new Workday Effort Reporting system as well as the legacy system. Extract complex data queries from UMD data tables to support SPAC and the campus research community. Prepare reports for audits requiring complex data sets; train campus-wide personnel on effort reporting processes and financial compliance requirements, prepares analyses, reports, and surveys to satisfy both internal and external cost accounting requirements. Additionally, they will assist the cost accounting team with service center rate development and biennial reviews and the calculation of our campus negotiated fringe and indirect cost rates with the federal government for use on grants and contracts.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University.

Experience:
  • Five years of related experience in post-award research administration or accounting and financial analysis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of federal grant regulations 2CFR 200.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office software.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Workday Financial and Human Capital Systems.
  • Experience in a research-intensive higher education setting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and knowledge of SAS Enterprise Guide.
  • Working knowledge of Cost Accounting Standards and Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and plan accordingly to meet deadlines. Ability to
  • effectively implement analytical and organizational skills to carry out and follow through with complex projects when no clear precedent exists.
  • Demonstrated ability to query data and perform complex analyses and create reports with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Skilled in financial systems for advanced analysis and valuable reporting.
