Campus Location

Department

Summary of Position

The TRIO Program at Keene State College invites applications for a Tutor Mentor Coordinator in Aspire to develop, implement, and assess Peer Tutoring and Peer Mentoring initiatives including coordination, recruitment, orientation, and training of student workers to foster student engagement, personal development, and academic success skills while building student leadership capacity through peer leadership positions. The coordinator will manage the daily operations, coordinate schedules and events, and facilitate communication among a diverse group of individuals. This is a full-time, benefited, grant funded position. Continuance of the position is expected upon grant renewal conditions and grant funding.

Aspire, a federally funded TRIO program, has a rich history in the Academic Affairs Division at Keene State College. The generic federal name for Aspire is Student Support Services (SSS) and its funding is competitive, requiring a successful proposal every five years. Aspire is in year 4 of a 5-year grant. Aspire is housed in the Elliot Center, the student services building. Aspire is an integral academic support office providing educational counseling, workshops on a variety of relevant topics, study skills development, time management and organizational support, the Summer Links Program, and peer tutoring and mentoring to KSC students. To learn more about the Aspire Program, please visit: https://www.keene.edu/office/aspire/

KSC strongly encourages students to seek support to be successful academically; the earlier a student receives services, the better the outcome personally and academically. Tutoring through Aspire supplements and complements courses as designed and presented by each instructor. The program brings together an individual student – or a small group of students – with a trained tutor to improve the skills essential for the course, address questions about the course content, organize a study plan, and build confidence. Tutoring is open to all students on campus, subject to the availability of tutors.

The Aspire Peer Mentoring: provides information and guidance to mentees with the intent of supporting students to be comfortable, engaged, and successful in life and college; promotes the adoption of successful behaviors, helping motivate and focus mentees when they are overwhelmed and/or struggling; and encourages mentees to develop and maintain an active relationship with Aspire through role modeling and actively connecting with Aspire professional staff, services, and activities.
