Job Roles

  • Determine eligibility for various leave types requested by employee (e.g., family medical leave, bonding leave, and temporary disability leave), and provide employees with required timely notice.
  • Interpret applicable laws and coordinate with state and federal laws.
  • Counsel employees and supervisors concerning qualifications of leave and related employee benefits.
  • Provide accurate information to employees such as proper PTO/ESI/PSL application in relation to coordinating State Disability Insurance or Paid Family Leave benefits on absences such as deductions from pay, medical certification requirements, return-to-work dates, and fitness-for-duty requirements.
  • Counsel employees on continuing health benefits while on leave and collection of benefit premiums.
  • Liaison with employee and LTD carrier to ensure timely assessment and filing of LTD claim with carrier on behalf of employee.
  • Liaison with supplemental benefit carrier in filing appropriate claims and completing required forms on behalf of employer and employee.
  • Work cooperatively with HR Service Center and the payroll department to process and coordinate all employee leaves of absence.
  • Maintain employee leave records which include confidential medical information in accordance with federal and state laws, and company policies and procedures.
  • Follow up with employees on leave requests and paperwork due dates.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned within the scope of benefit plan administration.

Education/Certifications/Licenses/Registrations

  • Bachelor's degree OR equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the skills, knowledge and ability to perform the essential job duties.
  • Professional certification is preferred, CLMS.
  • Ability and means to travel as needed in a timely manner within San Diego County, to locations that may have limited access to public transportation; proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required. DRIVER REQUIREMENTS: Licensed for a minimum of 3 years; No more than 2 violations and/or accidents within 3 years; No vehicle related suspensions/reinstatements; No DUI, reckless or felony Driving within 7 years.

Experience/Specialized skills (including Language)

  • 1-3 years experience in administering leave cases (FMLA, CFRA, PDL, USERRA, and WC FMLA).
  • 1-3 years experience in Human Resources/Benefits preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, decision-making acumen, and attention to details.
  • Working knowledge of regulations, including the Family Medical Leave Act, CFRA, PDL and USERRA.
  • Ability to accurately communicate policies, regulations and expectations with a diverse workforce.

If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors - we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
