Position Summary

The Academic Support & Student Services Department is recruiting for three temporary part-time Program Assistants for the Drone Pilot Academy which will take place in June 2024.  This position is responsible for serving in a mentoring capacity for participants. The Program Assistant will provide assistance to the Camp Coordinator, camp participants, and instructors while fostering a welcoming environment. This position is grant funded and will be paid a total of $10 per hour of work not exceed 56 hours of total work.  

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Assist with delivery of VC Drone Pilot Academy curriculum
  2. Administer or assist with the administration of program surveys
  3. Assist with customization of the curriculum and delivery to meet the students' needs
  4. Foster a classroom environment that encourages interaction and collaboration among camp students and instructors
  5. Encourage student success in the class through active engagement, academic understanding, project accomplishment, and social interaction
  6. Maintain effective communication with camp staff
  7. Participate in all required camp trainings, meetings, and classroom setup
  8. Provide feedback on the curriculum and camp operations
  9. Perform all other duties as assigned by camp staff

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in college with a 2.5 or higher GPA
  • Computer programming experience or an academic record showing computer programming coursework
  • Completion of advanced mathematics course(s) preferred
  • Prior experience working with adolescents preferred
  • Prior experience working for or attending a VC STEM camp preferred
  • Majoring in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics preferred

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle controls, key pads, etc. Will be required to sit and reach with hands and arms as well as, sit, stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds while loading office supplies and paper. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, some color vision, and the ability to adjust focus from documents to computer screen. Hearing of light to moderate sound is required by this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
