NC State Prevention Services provides case management, education, and outreach emphasizing inclusive, developmental, and non-judgmental perspectives for student prevention efforts. Through the lenses of behavioral health, wellness, and sustainability, our professionals collaborate with the campus community to enhance individual and collective well-being as well as assisting students gain the necessary resources to remain successful academically and emotionally at NC State.


Essential Job Duties

The primary duties of this position are as follows:

  • Provide expertise in creating, developing and implementing alcohol and other drug education and prevention programs for the campus community
  • Manage best-practices and research supported development and oversight of programs to foster movement of students through the stages of change as it pertains to substance use choices
  • Collaborate with campus partners on program development, training and messaging that supports harm reduction education and addresses high risk substance use behaviors
  • Co-lead the NC State Community Campus Coalition group
  • Participate in data collection for the Annual Report and Assessment Report when assigned
  • Co-lead recovery support programming within Prevention Services
  • Participate in local and national organizations and conferences
  • Stay informed about relevant laws, policies, and regulations related to alcohol and drug use on campus and advocate for policies that promote a safe and healthy environment.
  • Complete BASICS sessions for students mandated by Office of Student Conduct and self-referred
  • Complete Howl for Help session for students referred by Office of Student Conduct
  • Complete QPR suicide prevention training and offer this, and additional outreach support to Prevention as a department
  • Participate in the Postvention Rotation for after hours and weekend support

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree required
  • Successful candidates will be multiculturally affirming and possess competence and experience in working with various student populations.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including both oral and written communication in a variety of settings
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems and use sound judgment and reasoning to make crucial decisions autonomously
  • Demonstrated experience in providing individualized support for students in distress or who have been identified as exhibiting concerning or worrisome behaviors
  • Ability to establish collaborative relationships with campus and community partners
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a cohesive multidisciplinary team-oriented environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with risk assessment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of alcohol and other drug and recovery education and trainings
  • Demonstrated history of effective collaborations across a complex array of multiple agencies within a university setting
  • Excellent skills and experience in working with diverse, often underrepresented, student populations
  • Strong working knowledge of various federal and state laws affecting issues of privacy and confidentiality, disability accommodations and support, and response to sexual violence
  • Experience with supervision and training
  • Broad knowledge of best practices and current national trends related to higher education case management
