If you are aiming to grow your Transmission & Distribution, & Gas Pipeline design career then our Designer I (T&D & Gas) opportunity will provide you with a fulfilling position having you utilize your strong design skills to support NV5's Power Delivery Group based in San Diego, CA.

As our Designer I, you will prepare Natural Gas Design sketches, exhibits, permit designs, construction drawings, and related documents for polyethylene and steel Natural Gas pipeline systems that depict the installation, removal, and modification of gas facilities. Providing high-quality solutions to natural gas utilities and pipeline operators by producing drawings for new pipeline installations, renewals, relocations, retrofitting of existing systems, installing system control valves, and fittings.

Responsibilities

Other Responsibilities include:

    Assist with organization and administration of office operations.
  • Setup related AutoCAD Tool Palette to confirm to design specifications by setting up required Text and Dimension Styles, appropriate page scale, border, and client specific settings.
  • Interpret current related client Design and Mapping symbols.
  • Use client provided GIS/Mapping data export DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) file for basemapping use.
  • Create a scaled Basemap drawing depicting right of way, face of curb, easement, other related property information associated with the design location. Basemaps are used to illustrate the geographic location and position of existing and proposed gas installations.
  • Use existing utility records received from agencies within a project location to accurately draw in above and below ground facilities. Examples include Sewer, Water, Storm Drain, other wet utilities, Communication, Electric, and other Dry Utilities.
  • Produce Model space design-ready drawing to include all labels, text, annotations, and dimensions for existing street features and substructures, land base, existing and proposed utilities. This will include Gas pipeline and remove from service pipeline (RFS) line types, gas feed and dead ends with caution notes, and Tie in Details when applicable.
  • Produce Paper space layout for printing purposes to include related Border title cover sheet, Vicinity map, Notes, Trench Details, Legends, and Details.
  • Produce related Vicinity map that identify the general location of corresponding project. This drawing will always be oriented north and includes Thomas Brothers coordinates.
  • Produce related Street/road cross section depicting separation from new gas main trench to existing utility facilities and features.
  • Produce Detail drawings that will be used when the drawing scale provides insufficient drawing space to properly define work at a group of locations.
  • Use related design to produce a Mapping blank depicting existing facilities prior to planned installation, removal, or modification. The gas mapping blank is provided in the issued job package for creating as built of related Gas Pipeline work.
  • Interpret As-Builts, Utility Record Research, Field Sketch, Potholing Reports, to accurately depict Existing and Proposed Gas pipeline alignments and dimensions.
  • Use the latest version of AutoCAD to prepare design drawings with plan and profile, section, and detail views as designated by internal and external planning teams.
  • Prepare related sketches of overhead wire dimensions, plumbing plans, and any exhibits required to aid in planning and construction.
  • Prepare drawings based on direction provided by lead designers and field engineers.
Qualifications

If you possess the following experience & qualifications, then we would love to learn more about you!

  • High School Diploma, A.S. Technical degree is preferred.
  • 5+ years of AutoCAD or MicroStation pipeline Drafting Experience.
  • 5+ years or equivalent in Drafting/Design of Steel and/or Polyethylene pipeline projects, plan/profile, and detailed piping drawings or Previous Equivalent work in Natural Gas planning, design, engineering, or Construction.
  • Design experience of natural gas pipelines for subdivisions, developments, and commercial/industrial projects.
  • Design experience in Distribution and/or transmission internal and external driven pipeline projects.
  • Working knowledge of San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) and/or natural gas pipeline design and construction standards.
  • ArcGIS (Geographic Information Systems) understanding.
  • Proficient use of MS Office Outlook, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding utility records, plat maps, as-builts, construction drawings and gas service records for existing condition interpretation.
  • Understanding of Natural Gas Design standards, Gas distribution system concepts, Gas pipeline terms and definitions and/or related utility experience.

The pay range for this California position is $25.00- $28.00 per hour; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per California Senate Bill 1162. Base pay information is based on market location. Applicants should apply via the NV5 careers site.
