Overview

Working primarily outside as part of a small team or crew. Chance to learn underground utility location as it pertains to the design of new roads, buildings, and utility master plans. Learn the mitigation of risk associated with the damage to underground utilities during construction from faulty design due to incomplete existing condition information. This opportunity provides the chance to work on GIS grade maps for cities, counties, and private institutions. All tools and equipment are provided along with a company vehicle. Primarily travel around the southeast with opportunities to travel to other NV5 offices throughout the US.

Responsibilities
    Oversee staff and resources in the field.
  • Provide quality assurance and quality control on utility services technicians' work.
  • Assist and implement quality assurance and quality control policies and training at all levels.
  • Monitor multiple projects at a time.
  • Designate all sub surface utilities utilizing GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar), sonde and other equipment.
  • Visit project sites to identify and verify existing utilities.
  • Being able to pair count and positively identify utility owners and cable sizes.
  • Assist with operation and maintenance of vacuum excavation truck.
  • Be knowledgeable of the quality levels of SUE and how to differentiate between each one.
  • Read, comprehend, and interpret utility records.
  • Communicate appropriately with NV5 staff and onsite clients.
  • Maintain updated working knowledge of new technologies and techniques.
  • Direct and maintain company resources including tools, disposable products, monitoring equipment condition and calibration.
  • Assist Survey Managers with weekly administrative items including hours, mileage, expense reports, and project scheduling.
  • Provide training and reinforcement of standards for field staff.
  • Be able to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Enforce company policies with respect to safety, protocol and procedure in the field.
  • Market all NV5 services to clients.
  • Be involved in professional and civic organizations.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree preferred
  • 10+ years of utility designation experience
  • 10+ years of field management experience
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver's license prior to employment
  • Ability to travel (up to 60% of the time)
  • Microsoft Excel experience - can learn and understand new software
  • AutoCAD experience
  • Microstation experience
  • Familiarity with iPad or tablet, a plus
  • UTA Certified Professional certification preferred
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred

  • This position will be subject to outside environmental conditions, including weather conditions such as wet and /or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments.
    • Work will mainly be in the field involving long-term standing and frequent walking and common hazards at construction and project sites.
    • Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
    • Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 10-12 hours a day on occasion.
    • Must see, smell, hear, talk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel and twist, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, sit, stand, and walk.
    • Weekend and overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required.
    • Additional physical duties may be required as necessary.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, carry equipment, and navigate rugged terrain.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and precision to ensure accurate data collection and measurements.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication and teamwork skills to work collaboratively with other team members and stakeholders.
  • Safety Awareness: Awareness of safety procedures and the ability to prioritize safety during fieldwork.

License/Certification: Depending on the region, you may need a surveying technician certification or licensure, which can vary by state or country.

The pay range for this California position is $35.00- $45.00 per hour; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
