Essential Job Duties

Wellness and Recreation is seeking students to manage the equipment room; maintain cleanliness and aesthetics of all fitness, open recreation and general facility spaces; execute the set-up of activities and rooms; report maintenance and housekeeping issues and provide premier customer services; and promote a safe and clean facility.

Wellness and Recreation commits to foster a learning environment for our student employees that cultivates the skills of ethical reasoning, critical thinking, teamwork, initiative and professionalism. Programs and facilities are student-run with professional coaching. The goal is to help develop students’ transferable skills and create a supportive and challenging environment for them to succeed in and out of the classroom.

Responsibilities
Safety and Risk Management
• Ensure safety of users by supervising activity throughout the Wellness and Recreation facilities
• Welcome users and provide information regarding facilities, programs, services and the local area
• Enforce Wellness and Recreation procedures and guidelines
• Develop a strong knowledge of and assist in the implementation of the Wellness and Recreation Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
• Assume the first responder’s role in emergency situations by responding to all injuries and assisting in immediate first aid and proper emergency procedures
• Conduct regular facility rounds, which includes completing inspections and addressing/reporting malfunctions, safety hazards and improper departmental operations

Customer Service
• Develop knowledge related to facility layout and fitness equipment location to be able to guide users
• Provide premier customer service by greeting users and providing up-to-date information about Wellness and Recreation programs, services and facilities

Cleaning and General Facility Operations
• Clean fitness equipment and facility surfaces according to standards
• Complete inspections for equipment and report any signs of damage
• Organize weights, accessories, and ensure all equipment is returned to proper locations
• Track and maintain participation of assigned areas through facility counts
• Assist with day-use lockers

Equipment Room
• Manage the check out and check in of recreational equipment, towels and apparel
• Manage inventory and report damage and/or missing items
• Perform laundry duties including sorting, washing, drying and folding of items
• Manage the Wellness and Recreation lost and found

Open Recreation and Setups
• Clean and manage all open recreation areas
• Assist with equipment setup for open recreation and Health and Exercise Studies classes

Required License or Certification

• Current NC State degree-seeking student (enrolled in a minimum of 9 credits for undergraduate or 4.5 for graduate students)
