Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab

Job Description

Description

Are you an experienced analyst looking to develop your own impactful research program that addresses the nation's most challenging security problems?

Are you interested in mentoring developing analysts, and providing imaginative career development opportunities for analysts you supervise?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL!

We are seeking a supervisor for the Battlespace Information and Awareness (BIA) Section within the Operations and Programs Analysis (JOP) Group to lead and oversee studies and analyses, and provide career development for BIA staff. As a Section Supervisor, you will provide leadership to a team of analysts that uses systems engineering and operational analysis to help understand the performance and interoperability of U.S. and adversary information networks operating across all domains.

As the Battlespace Information and Awareness Section Supervisor...

  • Your primary responsibility will be to provide technical leadership to a team of analysts investigating the performance of U.S. and adversary information networks. You will also oversee analyses of the enablers to those networks, such as PNT, ISR, and tracking capabilities. This leadership will primarily be provided directly to team members as the lead for technical projects and by example to all the section members through quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis and the presentation of relevant results to decision makers. You will also ensure the timeliness and quality of the analysts’ work, to include their analytic technique and approach; their interactions with colleagues, sponsors, and project team members; and their written and presentation products.
  • You will mentor and coach section members by example. You will work with analysts to further develop their skills and grow the capability and capacity of the section. In addition, you will provide and guide staff development opportunities.
  • You will assist higher-level managers with group strategic planning and the development of new business initiatives to further develop APL’s capability in analyzing U.S. and adversary information networks.
  • You will assist higher-level managers with staff and task planning, interviewing and hiring, and integrated investment and capital planning.
  • You will conduct regular performance coaching sessions with staff.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have...

  • A bachelor's degree (or higher) in engineering, physical science, computer science, mathematics, operations research or another relevant discipline.
  • A demonstrated record of analytic leadership conducting operational and technical studies for relevant sponsors.
  • Demonstrated strength in communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering and operational analysis techniques.
  • A demonstrated ability to collaborate, lead teams, mentor and coach.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to meet with sponsors and leaders at operational commands.
  • An active Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have...

  • Experience with analysis of U.S. and adversary information networks, and/or enablers such as PNT, ISR, and tracking capabilities.
  • Supervisory and Project Management experience.
