Finance and Operations Assistant

Job Description

FINANCE AND OPERATIONS ASSISTANT, Economics, to support the financial and administrative operations of the department, using knowledge of the Institute and other departments to anticipate and initiate actions regarding office operations. May also function as a high-level individual contributor or coordinator of multiple projects. Responsibilities include processing and tracking expenses, reconciling accounts, processing travel expenses through Concur, creating purchase orders for procurement activities, processing payments and reimbursements with MIT’s Accounts Payable office; processing invoices; preparing journal vouchers; verifying credit card charges (PCard); performing monthly financial review and control; approving financial documents (e.g., travel vouchers, request for payments, etc.); supporting the director of administration and finance with a variety of duties, including reviewing/generating research administration documents (i.e., budgets, bio sketches, current and pending, etc.); creating and submitting research proposals; collecting/obtaining necessary information for sponsor requests; post-award management, including making financial projections; serving as a resource for faculty, staff, and students on financial transactions; and performing related tasks as needed.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; at least three years of administrative, office, finance, or related experience; excellent written and verbal communication skills; attention to detail and accuracy; ability to multitask and handle a wide variety of duties.  PREFERRED:  bachelor’s degree. Job #23878-5
