We are searching for someone who shares the same passion and mission to join our dynamic team as the Student Grants Program Manager with the Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts (ISLA).
Who we are: Founded by the College of Arts and Letters in 1984, the Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts helps advance research in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. To accomplish this goal, ISLA provides faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students within the College three main types of support: Internal Funding, Project Development, and Conference Support.
Job Description: The Student Grants Program Manager is a key role within the department. This position manages all aspects of ISLA undergraduate and graduate student grant programs. Reporting to the Director of ISLA, the Student Grants Program Manager’s top priorities are:
- Review and critically evaluate all student research proposals and formulate scholarly feedback when necessary
- Communicate with students and faculty regarding the disposition of proposals
- Coordinate and manage student grant programs including review processes and allocation of funds
- Prepare interim, annual, and bespoke reports for the ISLA Director, Dean’s Office, Development, and donors regarding the use of funds for student research and professional development
- Promote ISLA’s undergraduate and graduate student grant programs
- Run graduate student research development events and workshops
- Work closely with other campus units (e.g., Graduate School, CUSE, Keough institutes, IRB, NRI) to coordinate programming and funding for student research and professional development
- Represent ISLA at student-oriented academic events (e.g., information sessions, orientation and welcome weekend, COS-FURF, NDI events, Graduate School prof dev events and meetings)
- Meet regularly with the ISLA Director to review the status of student research programs
- Run graduate student research development events/workshops
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree required, Ph.D. preferred
- 6-12 months of relative experience
Skills:
- Excellent critical thinking and writing skills
- Ability to review scholarly work, formulate critiques, and deliver feedback
- Ability to manage funding accounts, develop procedures for accountability for funds, communicate with faculty and donors, and work with the staff of the Dean’s office. Grant writing skills and experience are very important for program development and appeals to donors for funds to support student research.
