Summary of Position

Red Rocks Communication College is seeking applications for part-time Education Instructors to join our Early Childhood Education Department. Part-time Instructors provide instructional duties for the College in their respective areas of expertise. They report to the department chair within the discipline and do not have any supervisory responsibilities. Responsibilities include instruction, student assessment, and other related instructional duties. Instructional delivery may include face-to-face, hybrid, and online. Classes may be held days, evenings, and weekends.

Courses filled by this position may include, but are not limited to the following within the Education department:


  • Early Childhood Education
  • Elementary Education
**Payment is based on the credit hour/contact hour and class ratio as assigned to you by the department chair. RRCC starts at $1048.57/credit hour to $1153.43.credit hour.

 

Essential Responsibilities

Classroom/Course Instruction: Required to meet all class periods and start and end classes promptly. Teach assigned curriculum and make use of required texts and materials. Provide students with a complete syllabus before the first day of class that includes information on course description, objectives, assignments, grading policies, and contact information. Provide data on student attendance (no-shows, last day of attendance, etc.), promptly. Use technology to facilitate learning including meeting the required minimum standards for the use of the College learning management system Desire2Learn (D2L.

Service: Maintain updated and accurate grading records in D2L and submit all final grades by the due date in the college student information system, Banner. Provide consistent and timely feedback to students regarding progress and grades on assignments. Prepare for each class meeting and consider learning strategies that address diverse learning styles and a diverse community college student population. Class content and assessment methods should relate to course objectives. The instructor must be patient and respectful, while also providing their expectations for what is considered acceptable work. The instructor must display dedication to the class as well as the goals of the program.

Communication: Respond timely to students and RRCC staff every 24-48 hours during the class term and for at least one week after grades are submitted. Attend department staff meetings throughout the semester as scheduled. Provide updates to the department chair.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications: A Master’s degree from a fully accredited institution in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Teacher Education, or a closely related field and at least 18 graduate hours in Early Childhood Education.

Preferred Qualifications: A Master’s degree from a fully accredited institution in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Teacher Education, or a closely related field and at least 18 graduate hours in Early Childhood Education. Demonstrated knowledge of teaching in community based and/or K-12 teaching experience. Membership in or experience working in diverse communities and supporting the success of students and staff from racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to work from campus (primarily our Lakewood campus with occasional hours at the Arvada campus). Demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and typically underrepresented groups. Demonstrated ability and willingness to teach students using traditional and alternative methods of instruction. Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into the classroom where appropriate. Knowledge of computer applications. Interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Knowledge of instructional objectives and course development techniques. Skills with managing, preparing, and delivering courses in the classroom and in the field. Ability to give and receive oral and written instructions and procedures. Have some knowledge working with D2L or a similar LMS.

Physical and Cognitive Demands: The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position:

  • Constantly uses a computer and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports classroom and office equipment and supplies weighing up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment and Typical Work Schedule (Dates and Times): Teach day, evening, or weekend courses and/or teach in any modality including in-person classroom-based courses, hybrid, remote, hyflex, concurrent, or online, ensuring that all courses meet the approved course outcomes and outlines.
