American Specialty Health Incorporated is seeking a Senior Manager - Systems & Database Administration to join our Information Technology Operations (ITO) department. This position will provide SQL Server database administration as related to Systems Operations and managing systems administration projects.

Salary Range

American Specialty Health complies with state and federal wage and hour laws and compensation depends upon candidate's qualifications, education, skill set, years of experience, and internal equity. $150,000 to $172,000 Full-Time Annual Salary Range.

Remote Worker Considerations

Candidates who are selected for this position will be trained remotely and must be able to work from home in a designated work area with company-provided technology equipment.This remote/WFH position requires you have a stable connection to your Internet Service Provider with the ability to participate by video in online meetings over a reliable and consistent network (minimum internet download of 50 Mbps and 10 Mbps upload speed).

Responsibilities

  • Develops project plans, specifying goals, strategies, resource allocation, scheduling, and prioritizing assignments in line with department directives.
  • Coordinates activities of database administrators to ensure goal achievement within identified timeframes.
  • Overseas research and evaluation of new cloud technologies and makes recommendations to IT Operations leadership.
  • Develop strong collaborative relationships with peer teams including but not limited to Security, Platform Engineering, Cloud Operations, Application Development, QA, DevOps, Service Delivery, and Business teams.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable security policies and relevant state or federal regulations.
  • Ensures daily data protection backup and test restores are performed.
  • Ensures performance standards are met on a quarterly basis.
  • Establishes standards and coordinates the completion of status reports and documentation.
  • Evaluates performance, coaches, counsels, and trains staff.
  • Ensures performance tuning is performed on all databases, including proactive monitoring and capacity analysis.
  • Leads team in following industry database coding standards for both data center and cloud environments.
  • Coordinates SQL code reviews and implements database change control and deployment processes as needed.
  • Supports application development teams in delivering high quality products into production.
  • Ensures team is working closely with application developers to maintain, support, and troubleshoot database environment.
  • On call 24 hours a day.
  • Prepares and submits written progress reports, spreadsheets, timelines, and other written documentation as directed by VP.
  • Attends team, departmental, and staff meetings to discuss issues and foster teamwork.
  • Stay current on Azure, database, and cloud technology trends by attending industry seminars, conferences, training classes, and reading industry journals.
  • Continuously expand your knowledge of Azure database services, best practices, and emerging trends to foster innovation and ensure you remain at the forefront of Azure architecture and design.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS/IS or equivalent preferred. If equivalent experience, high school diploma required.
  • 6 years minimum experience as a Database Administrator in a mission-critical environment, supporting desktop application development and Web services.
  • 4 years minimum experience as a technical project manager.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and related technologies.
  • Extensive knowledge in developing database administration standards and best practices.
  • Extensive knowledge in migrating and managing databases both in a data center and cloud environment with high preference with Microsoft Azure cloud.
  • Extensive experience in working with application development teams and building mutually supportive strategic roadmaps and quarterly plans.

Mobility

Primarily sedentary, able to sit for long periods of time with ability to travel within and outside the facility.

Physical Requirements

Ability to speak, see and hear other personnel and/or objects. Ability to communicate both in verbal and written form. Ability to travel within the facility. Capable of using a telephone and computer keyboard. Physically capable to stand, sit, kneel, crouch, and climb. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
