Job Description

Summary

Reporting to the Dean of Students (the campus senior student affairs officer) and serving as a key member of the DOS team, the Director of the Office of Student Life (OSL) provides vision, leadership and management consistent with the university?s mission. The Director has direct supervision and leadership responsibility for these areas: campus activities and traditions, fraternity and sorority life, new student programming, and civic engagement. The Director will be responsible for leading a professional and student staff team, with an annual budget of nearly $600,000.

The Director manages a significant number of high visibility institutional priorities and partnerships across campus and in the community. The individual must be a campus-wide collaborator and leader. They are responsible for fostering and supporting innovative programs and practices, which enhance student engagement and success. The Director performs a wide variety of duties designed to foster inclusion and enhance students? knowledge, understanding, and skills essential for academic success, personal development, cultural competencies and exercise of leadership and civic responsibilities. The individual will ensure that all OSL programs and services are consistent with the university mission and vision.
 

Responsibilities*

  • Directs specific functional areas including: Civic Engagement and Leadership; Student Activities and Organizations, Campus Collaborations and Events; Family Programming;
  • Fraternity and Sorority Life
  • Supports and/or leads other campus-wide priorities such as new student programs, Homecoming, etc.
  • Develops, implements and assesses departmental goals, policies and processes ensuring an infrastructure that supports student needs and success
  • Ensures OSL programs and services foster intellectual, social and leadership development for a diverse student population
  • Hires, leads, supervises, empowers and evaluates a team of professional and student staff, ensuring support for professional development
  • Budgets/allocates resources for departmental priorities and affiliated Sponsored Student Organizations
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
     

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor?s degree
  • 3-5 years? experience leading student programming/events, supporting student organizations
  • Experience supervising both student and full time professional staff
  • Experience working with broad campus audiences
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students; commitment to student success
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Ability to facilitate difficult conversations with students
  • Demonstrated expertise of federal policies impacting higher education, including FERPA
     

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master?s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field
  • Experience working with student organization technology platforms
  • Knowledge of student development theory
  • Experience working with Fraternity and Sorority Life
