Research Support Associate, Straehla Lab

Job Description

RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE, Koch Institute (KI) for Integrative Cancer Research-Straehla Lab, to join a dynamic team of researchers developing modular nanoparticle platforms and biomarker-based treatment regimens for pediatric cancers.  The experimental focus will use a combination of nanomaterials synthesis and molecular biology assays to investigate biologic regulators of nanoparticle delivery. Will join a group of multidisciplinary researchers performing cutting-edge research focused on cancer nanomedicine within the larger community of KI drug delivery researchers; and provide experimental and logistical support for multiple projects related to cancer nanotechnology using techniques ranging from nanomaterials synthesis and characterization to in vivo studies.  Research responsibilities include conducting basic lab experiments, maintaining accurate records, data analysis, presenting findings at laboratory meetings and to collaborators, initiating and recommending changes to manuals/procedures, conducting literature reviews, and contributing as a co-author to peer-reviewed publications and presenting data at symposia/conferences.  Administrative duties will include maintaining lab calendar/directories/mailing lists, ensuring availability of lab supplies, maintaining equipment records, troubleshooting/ordering new equipment, and ensuring that biohazard waste disposal follows policies/procedures.  Depending upon the candidate’s background/goals, there may be opportunities to engage in occasional clinical shadowing. This position is ideal for those looking to gain research experience before applying to graduate/medical school.   

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; willingness to collaborate as part of a diverse team and actively work to maintain an inclusive and open environment; comfort expressing ideas; strong organizational skills; and ability to handle a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment.  PREFERRED:  bachelor’s degree in STEM or related field, basic knowledge of general laboratory practices/procedures, lab experience (undergraduate experience considered), excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and meticulous attention to detail.  Job #23348-3
