Visitor Experience Representative

Job Description

VISITOR EXPERIENCE REPRESENTATIVE, MIT Museum, to assume a public-facing position that requires effective communication skills, a visitor-first approach, and excellent customer service.  Will be a member of the team that reports to the managers of the visitor experience.  Will welcome all visitors to the Museum; staff the admissions desk; learn about MIT and the museum’s collections, exhibitions, and programs in order to provide information to visitors; and ensure gallery security when stationed as a gallery attendant, monitoring guests as they move through the gallery spaces.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; at least three years’ relevant experience in a customer service role in a hospitality, retail, entertainment, or cultural organization working with the public and handling cash and credit card transactions; excellent computer/digital, interpersonal, and communication skills; sound judgment and ability to take initiative to quickly to resolve any issues, including those that are safety or security-related; discretion and good judgment with confidential information and/or issues; and ability to lift weights of up to 25 lbs.  Seek someone who enjoys contact with the public and is able to work in a busy environment, handle multiple tasks, and adapt to and effectively address whatever customer needs arise.  The schedule will require remaining in a stationary position and moving about public areas of the museum for most of the day.  PREFERRED: college education. Job #23794-3

Rate of pay:  $20.50/hour

Must be able to work weekend day(s), holidays, and occasional evenings to staff museum events.
