Summary of Position

Under the general supervision of the Chief of Police or designee. The Campus Safety Supervisor is responsible for implementing and maintaining a high degree of effective security strategies and policies, overseeing incident and crisis management activities, providing security-related counsel, and completing dedicated security functions, including asset protection, asset recovery and investigations, and managing, developing, and consulting on new security programs.

With or without reasonable accommodation, requires the physical and mental capacity to effectively perform all essential functions. In addition to other demands, the demands of the job include:

  • Maintain composure in dealing with authorities, executives, staff, and the public, occasionally under conditions of urgency and in pressure situations.
  • Exposure to sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Exposure to stressful situations, such as challenging individuals.
  • Rapid and effective decision-making during unusual or emergency situations.
  • Work in environments and under conditions that may require the use of protective gear and devices, and/or awareness of personal safety.
  • Frequent sitting and/or standing and walking, which may be required for long periods of time, and may involve climbing stairs and walking up inclines and on uneven terrain.
  • Some lifting and moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
  • Close and distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Travel between UNH campuses as required.

  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent. Some college preferred.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as a Public Safety Officer.
  • Extensive background investigation.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • No criminal record other than minor motor vehicle violations.
  • Must successfully complete psychological, polygraph and physical examinations.
  • Computer knowledge; Microsoft Office, Teams, public safety software.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Represent The UNH Police Department core values of integrity, vigilance, and excellence.
  • Willingness to make difficult decisions promptly or under pressure in the event of an unstable situation, crisis, or emergency.
  • Prepares the work schedule of Campus Safety Officers according to the coverage needs of UNH campuses.
  • Reviews work performance of Campus Safety Officers and recommends discipline, performance improvement and further training as required.
  • Periodically inspects all Security Officers to insure proper maintenance of personnel and department equipment.
  • Assist in the recruitment and hiring process for Campus Safety Officers.
  • Maintain assigned office space, equipment, supplies and material in good condition.
  • Prepare, collect, and maintain routine logs and records.
  • May participate in special event planning.
  • Maintains inventory of campus safety divisions equipment.
  • Collaborate with campus departments, UNH and local police, and local fire departments to maintain campus security & safety infrastructure.
  • Make recommendations on department policy, safety procedures, security & safety equipment & infrastructure.
  • Direct Campus Safety Officers on unusual conditions encountered during duty hours and respond to emergency situations.
  • Render assistance to the public.
  • Enforce college/university rules and regulations.
  • May represent the UNH Police Department on committees.
  • Protect campus property.
  • Direct searches of campus property during bomb threats.
  • Render aid at accident scenes or during disasters.
  • Operate automobiles and public safety equipment.
  • Patrol campus owned or leased property on foot to assure security of campus property.
  • May appear in court or hearings as a witness.
  • Considerable physical effort required while on duty; duties may demand continuous standing, walking, and occasional strenuous positions while performing duties under varying climatic conditions with exposure to accidents or occupational hazards that may result m total disability or loss of life.
  • May be required to perform duties of Campus Safety Officers.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
