The full-time Nursing Faculty position is a 12-month faculty position reporting to the Director of Nursing. The instructor is responsible for coordinating, planning, preparing, presenting, and evaluating classroom instruction and related activities. Teaching assignments and other related duties are performed during the day, evening, and/or weekend. Related activities include but are not limited to: instructing, instructional counseling, academic advising, serving on various committees, professional development, participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations.

 

Instruction

  • Facilitates student learning, provides effective instruction, and performs evaluations of student learning for all assigned classes, using each course’s standard course outline as a guide.

  • Develops course curriculum, course handouts, lectures, labs, and presentations.

  • Participates in program level learning assessment. Participation includes helping articulate learning outcomes, choosing and administering measures, evaluating student performance, and suggesting changes to improve student learning.

  • Works with other faculty and administrators in developing program curriculum, standards, and policies, including reviewing and participating in textbook selection process where appropriate.

  • Schedules, supervises, debriefs, and evaluates students in clinical, internship, observation, field experience, and similar settings as appropriate for the course or program.

  • Serves students via email, phone, or personal conferences. The method of contact and hours of availability should be clearly communicated to supervisors and to students through the course syllabus each semester.

  • Assigns grades and maintains course/student records in accordance with FERPA regulations and submit grades and records by established deadlines.

  • Meets all classes and other scheduled responsibilities such as office hours and meetings at the designated times. A faculty member should inform the supervisor if he or she is unable to meet a class on time. (See college policy on class cancellation and sick leave.)

  • Keeps a flexible weekly schedule that best facilitates student learning and access. Any changes in the scheduled class times or locations should have prior approval by the faculty’s supervisor. Monday and Tuesdays are clinical days and they are 12 hour shifts each.

 

Professional Development

  • Participates in summative and formative faculty evaluation process.

  • Remains current in academic or program discipline, including maintaining licensure, certification, or continuing education requirements where appropriate.

  • Receives training or stays current in technological or pedagogical advances that promote student learning.

  • Participates in college professional development activities.

 

Service to the College

  • Serves on standing ad hoc committees, advisory boards, hiring committees, faculty senate, or as a student organization advisor.

  • Mentors and assists in orienting new faculty, either formally or informally where appropriate or required by department or division.

  • Attends commencement or other ceremonies appropriate to the faculty member’s discipline or program.

  • Attends departmental, divisional, and college-wide meetings where appropriate or as required by supervisor.

  • Performs other academically related duties as assigned by instructor’s supervisor.

 

Rate of Pay: determined by month faculty scale placement (education and experience)

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills.

  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the profession.

  • Current knowledge of contemporary practice.

  • Computer skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook ©, Blackboard or similar Distance Learning Platform.

  • Ability to collaborate, direct, and manage with others

  • Ability to manage information

  • Ability to influence people

  • Ability to speak and write English

  • The employee will frequently lift, support, push and/or pull up to 50 pounds. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; and/or visual inspection at distances close to the eyes.

 

Education

  • Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) as required by Accrediting Body.

 

Experience

  • Minimum of two years previous clinical experience in nursing.

  • Minimum of one year of classroom teaching experience.

 

License/Certifications/Requirements yearly

  • Holds a current, unencumbered registered nurse license to practice in Arkansas.

  • Clear criminal background

  • Clear 10 panel urine drug screen

  • Current TB/CPR documentation

  • Current Immunizations

  • Vaccines as required by healthcare facilities policies and requirements
