The Department of Crop and Soil Sciences encompasses diverse disciplines in research extension and teaching. The department’s mission is to develop future leaders in crop, soil, and environmental sciences, improve crop plants and products, devise effective and sustainable crop production systems, devise effective and sustainable soil management techniques in both agriculture and urban settings; and disseminate crop, soil, and environmental science knowledge for the benefit of users and producers of food, feed turf, biofuels and fiber in North Carolina, the nation and the world.
Essential Job Duties
This position will coordinate turfgrass extension and field research activities in eastern North Carolina and support the statewide extension turfgrass program.
Primary duties include:

- Providing leadership in the design and implementation of educational programs and the dissemination of outreach information on advanced turfgrass management techniques that are effective and environmentally sustainable.
- Working with and supporting university faculty to identify high-priority research areas, and subsequently establish and evaluate field research experiments and interpret results.
This position is expected to support (presenting, organizing the program, coordinating logistics, securing speakers, etc.) turfgrass outreach events such as field days, regional conferences, etc. in all sectors of turfgrass including, but not limited to, golf courses, sod production, residential and commercial lawns, and athletic fields. This is a ‘bridge’ position that will ensure that research in the turfgrass area is focused on areas of practical importance and that research results are transferred to county extension agents, industry practitioners, and the public.

Other Responsibilities
This person will be expected to attend professional meetings at the regional, state, and national levels to maintain updated knowledge of emerging turfgrass management strategies and contribute presentations on the experimental results being generated in eastern NC field research programs.
Minimum Education and Experience
- M.S. in Crop Science/Turfgrass Management.
- Experience with extension and research in turfgrass systems.
Other Required Qualifications
- Ability to interact with professionals from many disciplines, including county extension agents, industry professionals, and university faculty.
- Experience in turfgrass field research with warm- and cool-season turfgrass species, with an emphasis on integrated pest management strategies and assessment of environmental impacts on turfgrass systems.
