Rider University invites applications for the position of Manager of Laboratories. This individual will ensure that the science-building facilities are appropriately maintained for the safety and research-educational needs of the faculty and students.

Specifically, the individual will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring the availability of materials and laboratory equipment to maintain teaching and research laboratories;
  • Acting as the laboratory safety officer and building marshal;
  • Assisting with equipment upkeep, oversight and maintenance;
  • Oversight, upkeep and maintenance of teaching laboratory spaces, animal facilities, aquaria, greenhouse and common-use equipment spaces;
  • Tracking of and assistance with disposal of hazardous waste; and
  • Maintaining records of areas described above.

Position Requirements

    • Undergraduate degree in chemical or biological field required.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of safe handling of hazardous chemicals through proper training.
    • Demonstrated understanding of OSHA, NRC, DEP, and New Jersey state regulations regarding storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals.
    • Demonstrated excellent professionalism and communication skills.
    • Knowledge of computers, primarily spreadsheets.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate with vendors on the phone and place appropriate orders.
    • Demonstrated strong organizational skills required to manage multiple tasks over the course of the work day.
    • Demonstrated ability to prepare equipment, chemical samples and solutions for undergraduate teaching laboratories.
    • Satisfactory background and/or DMV checks required

 

 

Position Preferred Qualifications/Experience

    • Master’s degree in similar field is preferred.
