Coffman Engineers is seeking a Senior Fire Protection Engineering Consultant (part-time)with 25 or more years of working experience, who is passionate about their craft, wants to work on a high-functioning team, and looking for an environment that promotes professional growth. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, have a desire to work and grow with a multi-discipline engineering team, and be willing to have fun.

You would be a consultant working with design teams, construction teams, and building owners in development and implementation of electronics life safety systems utilizing California Building and Fire Codes for: automatic suppression system design, fire detection, alarm and mass notification system design, life-safety code analysis, egress analysis, fire resistant construction analysis, smoke control analysis and special inspection as well as general fire protection and life safety concepts and research.

  • Work as a consultant working with design teams, construction teams, and building owners in development and implementation of electronics life safety systems utilizing California Building and Fire Codes, International Building and Fire Codes, NFPA codes & standards, and Federal Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) documents.
  • Responsible for managing and implementing fire protection design and analyses on a wide variety of project types.
  • Work independently and with teams, may supervise the efforts of a small project team.
  • Manage effort on multiple jobs concurrently while meeting project schedules, quality requirements and budgets.
  • Think conceptually to provide strategic solutions to challenging design issues.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to provide solutions to complex fire protection projects.
  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Possess intermediate level computer skills necessary for daily activities including email, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, and a working knowledge of computer-aided drafting, Revit, and fire dynamic simulation.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned
Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess strong critical thinking, organizational, and analytical abilities.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel preferred.
  • Strong organizational ability, detail oriented, high degree of accuracy.
  • Positive contributor to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • BS degree in engineering or related science from an accredited college or university strongly preferred.
  • NICET Level III required
  • Minimum 25 years of professional experience
  • Competence in broad range of fire protection concepts and design capabilities
  • Extensive experience with design, specification, installation, inspections, service, and project management including security, access control, CCTV, fire alarm & voice evacuation, mass notification, and clean agent suppression systems.

Expected hourly rate: $69.00 - $72.12.
