Summary of Position

The Director’s primary responsibility is the administration of the program as the grant P.I., particularly the integration and systematizing of decisions, policies, and managerial priorities. All major decisions regarding time, cost, and performance are channeled through the Director. The Director maintains full control for setting program goals, policies, and methodology and holds full authority to dispense project funds within federal and UNH fiscal policies. The Director is also responsible for advising students in their McNair experience inclusive of proposal writing, graduate school application processes, and all matters both academic and non-academic that students face in their UNH journey. The Director reports to the Executive Director, Student Success.

Duty/Responsibility

Project Development: Development of project design, delivery system and modification of project; establish project objectives; identification of target students and best practices, including staff requirements to meet needs; grant writing and securing appropriate external and UNH funding.

Duty/Responsibility

Project Execution: Overall project management. Includes monitoring project for compliance with federal regulations, budget management, as well as developing and analyzing an assessment/evaluation plan for program efficiency. Budget management includes developing, monitoring, and reporting in compliance with USDoE-TRIO and university regulations; coordination with UNH Finance Team, Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) and Support Team for the Administration of Research (STAR), managing payroll and stipends; doing strategic three-year budget planning in line with UNH practices.

Utilize existing systems for data collection for federal government and UNH reporting, and for meeting program objectives. Develop, implement, and monitor grant evaluation plan. Collect and analyze formative and summative evaluation data to assure project objectives are being met. Formative data is collected by analyzing database to determine if project is making substantial progress towards goals. Summative data is collected at end of grant year via database, student surveys, and the National Student Clearinghouse. Adjust programming according to outcome data to assure objectives are met.

Oversee student outreach and recruitment activities, convene Advisory Board, engage faculty mentors, and oversee student programming such as curriculum development, student centered events such as Summer Research Fellowship (8-week summer research program), AY Research Seminars, college visits/conference attendance with students and event planning.

Management & Supervision: Overall staff supervision; hiring, training, assigning work, completing annual evaluations and when necessary, implementing corrective action. Direct supervision of associate director and program support assistant, graduate student peer advisors and summer instructors and staff.

Direct Service: Advise and provide educational counseling to low income first generation and underrepresented students of color at UNH. The need to keep confidential and/or sensitive information of students, by abiding to FERPA protocol. Service to students includes; summer and academic year research fellowship and graduate school preparation. Summer/AY courses include; research proposal writing (taught by director), GRE seminar, graduate school preparation (taught by director &/or associate director), and an introduction to research.

Duty/Responsibility

Communications & Marketing: Publicize objectives and nature of McNair Program activities through recruiting activities as well as participation in university and TRIO committees that form and develop an institutional network of faculty, deans, directors, advisors, and student support services staff. Oversee social media presence. Pursue professional development.
