Overview

Meyerson Laboratory -CANCER GENOMICS AND GENOME-INSPIRED DISCOVERY

https://meyersonlab.dana-farber.org/

We are recruiting an excellent computational biologist with expertise in germline genetics, somatic cancer genomics, and genome-wide association studies, to lead a research program on ancestry and cancer risk.  This research program is focused on the question of why EGFR and KRAS somatic mutations in lung cancer vary by ancestry (Carrot-Zhang et al., Cancer Discovery, 2021).

Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with academic and diagnostic industry partners to assemble large data sets of cancer genomic data.
  • Analyze germline mutation data to develop position-specific ancestry analysis across cancer samples.
  • Analyze somatic mutation data to describe mutational landscape in each cancer sample.
  • Perform admixture analysis, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and other approaches to search for ancestry-specific risk loci.
  • Perform fine mapping of linkage to identify potential risk alleles.
  • Collaborate with clinical and biological colleagues to interpret the results of these analyses.

Qualifications

  • PhD in computer science, mathematics, physical science, or life science preferred.
  • Expertise in somatic cancer genomics as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publication.
  • Expertise in germline genetics and genomics as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publication.
  • Ability to innovate new computational strategies at the intersection of germline and somatic cancer genomics.
  • Intellectual flexibility with the ability to execute multiple computational projects, solve complex problems, and focus on unexpected opportunities.
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate with diverse collaborators with distinct expertise and skill sets.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, we work every day to create an innovative, caring, and inclusive environment where every patient, family, and staff member feels they belong.  As relentless as we are in our mission to reduce the burden of cancer for all, we are equally committed to diversifying our faculty and staff.  Cancer knows no boundaries and when it comes to hiring the most dedicated and diverse professionals, neither do we. If working in this kind of organization inspires you, we encourage you to apply.
