Northeast Passage is seeking a highly skilled CTRS to join our community-based recreational therapy team in supporting the health and well-being of veterans in NH.  
 
Our individualized and strengths-based model of care meets recommendations for effective veteran healthcare solutions which:  use a cognitive and experiential approach, address barriers, decrease stigma, increase personal confidence in coping, and support a sense of meaning and purpose through engagement in the community and in recreation.
 
This model of community-based RT is at the forefront of healthcare trends that address social determinants of health.  We use evidence-based practices to address both the contextual and personal factors that influence health behavior.  
 
We are actively engaged in creating change in healthcare policy and practice in NH (and nationally) through advocacy and research.  We rely on the collective work of our team to build this evidence base, evaluate best practices, and forward advocacy efforts.   
 
We are seeking Someone who is: self-directed, able to apply a broad based of knowledge in health management and disability, can facilitate with sound clinical judgement in a community-based setting, has a strong sense of clarity in professional role, and a commitment to Veteran health and advancing the field of RT.

Under administrative direction of Program Director, or other designated supervisor, recreational therapist on the clinical team utilizes a strengths-based and collaborative approach to provide support to our clients as they achieve their vision for an optimal quality of life across all domains.

  • Provide services in homes, communities, and school settings. Treatment sessions may range from individual 1:1 service to group-based interventions and may include transporting (in Northeast Passage vehicles) clients, family members, or other providers that are part of the client’s healthcare or educational team.

  • Follow the APIE (Assess, Plan, Implement, Evaluate) process:
    • Assess individual/group needs & create individualized treatment plans.
    • Research, design, & implement safe, accessible recreation, sport and leisure interventions that support individual identity and functional skill development.
    • Evaluate and document outcomes of interventions and document progress on goals.

  • Act as the primary liaison with clients, families, and related service providers in both community health systems and schools-based settings.
    • Attend Individual Education Plan or team meetings according to treatment setting.
    • Manage aspects of contracts which may include billing, scheduling, sending documentation, or resource and referral information as required.
    • Advocate for access to, and build relationships within, community-based settings.
    • Advance the understanding and role of therapeutic recreation services.

  • Support the greater Northeast Passage mission and engagement within the University of New Hampshire through support of programs as needed across the organization.
    • Collaborate across teams as needed
    • Supervise students on internships and practicum experiences.
    • Maintain records and reports as required.
    • Participate in organizational professional development and training opportunities.
    • Participate in individual supervision.
    • Operate as a respectful and willing team player.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Other minimum qualifications

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) through National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).
  • Eligible for and maintains a Recreation Therapy license through NH Office of Allied Health.
  • 2 years of experience in Recreation Therapy.
  • Valid and clean driver’s license with ability to meet DOT certification to drive passenger vans.
  • Complete and maintain any additionally required certifications.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of Recreation Therapy experience.
  • Experience in behavioral health and facilitation of health-related outcomes.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce.
