2024 Graduate - Electrical Engineer - Intelligence Surveillance & Reconnaissance

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab

Job Description

Description

Are you passionate about embracing challenges and deploying solutions?

In the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) group, we engineer solutions from concept design to field deployment for our diverse set of government sponsors on rapid timelines. Our projects encompass a variety of domains (air, land, and sea) and technologies (passive sensing, imaging, communications, sonar, radar, etc.) for applications ranging from autonomous low power devices to uncrewed vehicles. Project teams are small and multidisciplinary -- all of our staff members have ownership over their work and collaborate closely across electrical, mechanical, and software design. Our senior staff are dedicated to mentoring junior staff to become engineers who can handle a wide variety of technical challenges. If you’re looking to develop a diverse skillset, take ownership in your projects, and see them from concept through delivery, join us at KMR.

We are seeking an entry level Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic and multidisciplinary team. You will develop solutions through the full embedded systems design process, from design conception to testing. Hardware design, algorithm development, and embedded firmware are some of the many opportunities for innovation available in this role. You will work across a variety of system architectures and have the flexibility to explore what interests you the most. Your work will play a crucial role in developing embedded systems that are deployed around the world.

As an Electrical Engineer you will…

  • Design and test custom mixed signal printed circuit boards.
  • Design and build automated testbeds including hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop to facilitate rigorous test and evaluation.
  • Develop and embed signal processing, communications, and controls algorithms.
  • Work within multi-disciplinary teams to integrate and test your designs in the lab and in the field.
  • Perform laboratory and field testing of systems to evaluate their performance and validate design concepts.
  • Collaborate to integrate systems into larger platforms or vehicles.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in both sensing and communication technologies in order to contribute to ongoing research and developmental efforts
  • Provide technical expertise and support to internal teams and external customers regarding system capabilities and limitations.
  • Document engineering processes, design specifications, and test results for internal and external use.
