This position will be in support of the Defense & Veterans Center for Integrative Pain Management (DVCIPM) at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD).

Responsibilities

HJF is seeking a Research Nurse who coordinates the activities associated withrecruiting patients for research studies. Assures accurate documentation is maintained, and all governing regulations are in compliance. This position is the first of two Research Nurse levels.

Responsibilities

    Interviews patients for research protocols and collects and analyzes data to determine eligibility and patient commitment.
  • Educates patients about the research studies, their roles in the protocols, and any other vital information.
  • Provides patients with documentation validating their study participation as needed.
  • Serves as a resource for the study participants.
  • Conducts sessions for patients and informs them of their rights and responsibilities.
  • Obtains pre-screening medical documents by communicating with appropriate sources and accessing approved databases.
  • Acts as a liaison between patients and investigators.
  • Collects data appropriate to the research protocol; documents in research record and on case report forms.
  • May be required to draw blood and obtain other specimens as specified in protocols.
  • Evaluates patient status and appropriately elevates significant findings to the physician investigators.
  • Conducts patient follow-up as required.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of complex nursing procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal and local regulations and policies pertinent to research involving human subjects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to work with individuals of all levels.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN, certification as CCRC or CCRP preferred.
