Overview

The HR Communications Manager works closely with HR leadership and our Internal Communications Partners to create, improve, and manage HR content tied to our strategic HR priorities through effective, consistent storytelling on a variety of platforms. They work as part of the HR Strategic Initiatives team to produce a wide range of HR/Inclusion Diversity and Equity-related employee communications, presentations, digital content, HR Leadership communications/talking points, and collateral materials for staff, managers, faculty, and new hires,. They support employer branding efforts, implementation of new internal digital platforms, and HR events.

Responsibilities

  1. In collaboration with HR Subject Matter Experts and HR Leadership, develop, edit, and manage content and key messaging for internal and external channels for the HR Department, including the Dana-Farber intranet, presentations for large Institute convenings (e.g., Open Forum, Monthly Manager Meeting), and leadership talking points for events and meetings.
  2. Actively manage and maintain HR’s presence on the Dana-Farber intranet, creating a user-friendly experience for staff and faculty. Perform regular content audits to determine content opportunities that align with HR strategic goals. Propose and implement creative solutions to drive employee usage of Dana-Farber’s HR Intranet pages. Work closely with Internal Communications Analytics Team to interpret trends and data, and to develop appropriate content to maximize reach and engagement.
  3. Develop an overall HR Department Communication Strategy that positions HR initiatives and services optimally throughout the Institute, connects HR staff to our top Department Strategic priorities, and builds HR Department community, including:
    • Collaborating with departmental team members and/or participating in department project teams to provide communication planning/assistance to ensure timely and effective delivery of quality projects and deliverables.
    • Responding quickly to relevant events/news to create timely communications and search-friendly content.
    • Serving as the HR Department communications contact on assigned committees and workgroups.
    • Support communications aspects of HR Department engagement activities including team building events, wellness initiatives, HR All Staff meetings, and department social activities.
    • Provide collaborative guidance and advice on integrated communication strategies to build employee morale, productivity, retention, and policy compliance.
    • Support and help to coordinate Dana-Farber’s approach to major HR announcements, developments and initiatives, planning the use of different forms of media. Including social media.
    • Supporting HR Department team efforts such as announcing and creating onboarding materials for new team hires and contributing to the production of regular staff convenings (e.g., All Staff meetings) and communications.
    • Report on HR Department milestones and activities such as department goals and projects; new products or services; community service activities; and new hires, promotions, and retirements.
  4. Help grow a more inclusive workplace through thoughtful, effective communications, and ensure that Inclusion, Diversity & Equity-related content is well-represented, working closely with Inclusion, Diversity & Equity office colleagues and Internal Communications.
  5. Partner with Internal Communications to:
    • support the internal employee communication strategy consistent with the Dana-Farber’s mission, vision and core values;
    • communicate initiatives and program deadlines to staff and faculty in a variety of print, digital, and interpersonal ways; tasks may include creating and publishing broadcast emails, calendars, blogs, videos, and Intranet content and social media messaging;
    • develop employer brand and related messaging;
    • identify opportunities to increase connection for employees in a hybrid/remote environment; and
    • actively participating in and supporting audio and/or video content initiatives, including project management, research, testing, and implementation of new audio efforts throughout various channels and content outlets.
  6. Partner with stakeholders to establish success metrics, monitor KPIs, measure results and react appropriately for assigned channels.
  7. Manage , assigning work, developing capabilities, partnering on projects to cover the communications needs of the Department, including hiring and supervising contract communications staff, when needed.
  8. Write, edit, proofread and perform other communication-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The manager supervises 1- 2 staff roles, as well as interns, and freelancer writers/designers as needed.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in communications or related field and five to eight years of strong writing, editing, and project or content management experience required, including intranet design, digital content, presentation/Powerpoint design; experience in HR communications within healthcare, academic or large corporate organizations strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  1. Experience in HR communications within healthcare, academic or large corporate organizations strongly preferred
  2. Understanding of health care field strongly preferred
  3. Intranet design and intranet management experience strongly preferred. Experience with intranet platform, Interact, a plus
  4. Ability to think both strategically and creatively and execute tactical deliverables
  5. Ability to work well with a range of constituents and clients, including senior leaders, clinicians, researchers, faculty, administrative and support staff, and students
  6. Understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion principles and how to incorporate within HR communication strategy
  7. A sense of urgency and an ability to anticipate and respond quickly to emerging information
  8. Ability to foster strong relationships and value collaboration to develop and execute on plans
  9. Strong writing, editing, presentation creation, and project management skills, preferably in HR for a healthcare organization
  10. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects
  11. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  12. Acts with integrity and respect always, seeking to build trust
  13. Discretion and diplomacy in handling confidential staff information
  14. Understanding of print and digital content/publication process
  15. Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skill
  16. Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, various database, project management, and other communications tools and systems, especially Microsoft Teams; experience with SmartSheet a plus
  17. Understanding and experience in SEO, social media principles and practices, and social media and digital content development preferred, but not required.
